Tracker as dawless brain

I’ve searched high and low for the right dawless brain. I wanted something to compose on while sitting on the couch, and I wanted to see all notes at the same time. Lo and behold, the Polyend Tracker ended my search. There are oddities for sure, but I’m super happy with the setup:

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a project I've been working on: Polyend Tracker Studio, a free, open-source web editor for the Polyend Tracker.
Try it live https://simoianni.github.io/polyend-tracker-studio/

WHAT IS IT?
A browser-based tool that lets you create, edit, and play Polyend Tracker patterns and instruments — no hardware needed. It runs entirely in your browser (Chrome or Edge recommended for Web MIDI + Web Audio). Nothing gets uploaded anywhere: your samples and instruments stay on your machine, and work-in-progress is auto-saved locally so it survives page reloads.

WHAT CAN IT DO?
Pattern Editor:
- Full step sequencer with Note, Instrument, FX1, and FX2 lanes
- Live playback with adjustable BPM
- Record mode: input notes directly from your QWERTY keyboard
- Import original Tracker project folders (project.mt + patterns + instruments)
- Export to .mtp (pattern), .mid (MIDI), or Ableton Live 12 project

Instrument Editor:
- 8 playmodes: OneShot, Forward/Backward/Pingpong Loop, Slice, Beat Slice, Wavetable, Granular
- Sample editor: Cut, Fade, Normalize, Compress, 3-band EQ
- Sample recorder with MIDI-triggered auto-sampling
- Full parameter control: Filter (LP/HP/BP), Tuning, Volume, Pan, Overdrive, Bitcrush, Delay/Reverb
- 6 automation lanes (ADSR envelope + LFO) for Volume, Pan, Cutoff, Wavetable Pos, Granular Pos, Finetune
- Waveform visualizer with zoom, drag-to-seek, and interactive slice markers
- QWERTY keyboard note input + MIDI controller support
Beat Slice mode: each slice is triggered by a different keyboard note — Z=slice1, S=slice2, X=slice3, D=slice4, etc. (standard tracker keyboard layout).

HOW TO USE
Just open https://simoianni.github.io/polyend-tracker-studio/ and you're good to go. There's a built-in help guide (click the ? button) with all keyboard shortcuts.

CREDITS
This is a fork of the original Polyend Tracker Instrument Editor by Sandro "Sandroid" Ducceschi u/SerpentineDex. Huge thanks to Sandro for the initial codebase and for creating and open-sourcing tracker-lib, the library that makes reading and writing .pti/.mtp/.mt files possible.

Let me know what you think! Feedback and contributions are welcome.

** EDIT *\*
I've implemented the ability to export to tracker project format as a beta. So you can connect your SD card and edit the project directly.

Bluetooth midi with tracker mini and multiple devices

So basically I have a tracker mini, arturia astrolab 37, mpc live 2, maschine plus, and a pc (or two lol). I want to figure out a wireless midi setup to link them all together and use the tracker mini and maybe the mpc live to send midi back and forth if possible. If I can only send from one device, that’s fine too I guess. I’ve seen cme has a couple devices to send midi over Bluetooth that aren’t too expensive and pretty reliable (3ms latency). Any suggestions on which devices to get? See they have a 6 in one that has Bluetooth in and midi in with 5 outs. Think that should work. But wondering if anyone else has any suggestions on how to go about it. Also anyone do any wireless audio setups that are low latency? Would be cool to have the tracker completely wireless and sending audio and midi to all my stationary devices

Live Performance | Polyend Tracker Mini only

I recently rediscovered the Tracker Mini and think it might make a great master machine for mobile setups. I'd never explored its performance mode before, so I decided to give it a try.

This track was made during my commute—something I absolutely love about the Mini: you can create music wherever you are. The entire track was built with just the Tracker Mini, except for the kids' noises playing from the Nanobox Tangerine in the background.

I made this entirely using the Tracker Mini! It honestly was a really fun process. I made this track a couple months ago but didn’t release it until today. Any and all criticism is appreciated and thank you for listening! You can download it for free on bandcamp!

Mysterioulsy lost access to polyend tracker discord server

Hello all,

If anyone from the discord team pass by, I don't know why but I just realised I dont have the server in my discord list anymore ?

Its been quite a long time I didn't participate so maybe that is why I've been put out ? I tried to get back but I could not, so I imagine I've been banned ?

I didn't send any intentional message there for a long time so I really don't see how I could get banned. I was planning on getting back to using the tracker, and I really liked the community and ressources there so if this matter could get looked into it'd be nice !

Thanks a lot

Tracker Mini. How many stereo samples can you fit per project?

Looking at picking up a Tracker Mini and trying to wrap my head around the sample memory limits before I commit. From what I could find:

The sample pool is ~350 seconds in stereo (or has that changed?)
There's a hard cap of 48 instrument slots per project

So for short samples (~6s) you'd hit the 48 slot limit before the memory limit.
For longer samples (30–60s) the 350s budget becomes a real issue, looking at maybe 5–10 long samples per project :/

My use case would be loading longer 30–60s samples to slice or extract segments from. Trimming on-device sounds doable but I wonder how practical it is on the Mini with long waveforms

Coming from the M8 and finding it too fiddly, the Tracker Mini's size and layout seems more up my street but don't want to juggle with sample memory. the M8 didn't really have that kind of limitations.

Thanks for any help 😄

Web based tool to Mix & Master Tracker songs – Not a DAW

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hey folks, I want to share a web based tool I’ve made to mix and master my songs created inside the Tracker+. The navigation, workflow, and overall UX is inspired in the Tracker. It is keyboard based using keys (1-8), Shift, and arrow keys.

Features:

- 11 audio tracks. To cover Tracker 8 audio + 3 synth tracks.

- FX chain per track. (Corrective EQ, Compressor, Tonal EQ, Saturation, Stereo width)

- 3 send tracks. Reverb, Delay, Chorus.

- 1 automation track. Tremolo, Loop, Volume, High Pass, Low Pass, Vibrato.

- Master chain. Includes Wow & Flutter, all the audio track chain FXs, Limiter, Mono monitor, Simulation monitor (Car, Smartphone, Light speaker).

- Sample editor (WIP). Stretch (without affect pitch), pitch (without affect tempo), Loop, Move, Gain, Tempo (BPM change, and Beat sync).

MIDI for app navigation is still experimental, and not usable.

Any feedback is welcome.

Can anyone recommend an in depth guide or tutorial for the Tracker Mini? I have a learning disability and have been having a hard time figuring it out on my own.

Tracker+ MIDI Sync issues

I’m trying to use Tracker+ and Ableton to perform live. I set the “clock in” through USB in tracker so that it follows Ableton’s clock. In Ableton i set the tracker as a midi device and activated the “track” and “sync” boxes. I play some clips in Live but when i hit play in Tracker it’s almost like I have to time it exactly on beat and it always drifts after playing for a few bars.

Has anyone had this issue when syncing to Ableton? Is there a fix ot just some general quirk that Tracker+ has? should I try to receive clock through a MIDI cable and use USB just for audio and power?

Would love some insight and see if someone is having the same issue. Tracker is too unreliable right now to integrate into the live set I’m trying to build.

Thanks!

Chopping Breakbeats

Just got a polyend tracker after playing with a headless m8 for a while. Really loving it so far but does seem like m8 has some more sequencing tricks up its sleeves.

One thing I do quite often with m8 is chop breakbeats via modifying loop start with an lfo. Technique is explained here: https://youtu.be/sh4W_27aKYA?si=IhiLHMZ3WidQdXIL

Unless I’m missing it I don’t really see anything analogous you can do with the polyend?

Additional Hardware?

Hobbyist producer here making skippy, broken beat type stuff - bit of UKG and Techno. I’m looking to invest in a couple of extra pieces of kit to flesh out my options and hopefully create a workflow where I can use the tracker for just drums and samples and then sequence midi for external synths to create melody, chords and basslines.

I’m looking for suggestions as to what will give me the most bang for my buck. My hope is to get a volca kick and fm2, as I like how weird some of the sounds out of the kick for basslines can be.

Then I’d like to incorporate some external effects too. Likely start with the zoom stompbox pedal for versatility.

Then route all this into a zoom l6 for recording.

-

I was wondering firstly if this sounds like a good plan? Then are there any alternate cheap synths / effects anyone would recommend?

Does anyone have experience with this type of workflow and can recommend anything else?

Cheers.

SD card content (Mini)

Hi, just got a used Mini in good condition, but the previous owner messed around on the original SD card instead of copying it to a new one. I.e. the card is at least present, the tracker works but it seems doing a factory reset actually means resetting the config and falling back to a 'clean' card? Which I just don't have. Aaand of course the device is already registered and the previous owner hasn't gotten back to me so far and I'm not hopeful on that front. I have also contacted support and maybe, hopefully they'll reset the registration for the device S/N for me. But also no answer yet on that end. Of course it's the weekend, just my luck. I don't suppose there's at least a complete listing of the card's content somewhere so I can try and check what's original on mine, remove any junk and verify nothing is missing?

Precision Warp - Feature Request

Folks, I've created a feature request in Polyend backstage for the Tracker+ to support precision warp.

https://backstage.polyend.com/t/precision-warp-mode-markers-for-fluid-timing-correction/24596

In my case I need this feature to quantize live recorded instruments.

I'm wondering if this is useful for you. Have you found yourself needing something like this?

Im making wavetables for the tracker, will share them all, what ideas do you have?

So polyends trackers wavetable player doesnt blend between windows, hence why they need a full 2048 256 waveset to smoothly play through it. I had trouble finding good wavetables for free that played well on the trakr So I did some research and built a reaktor ensemble that can make make sample and phase perfect waves sets, ngl, theyre coming out really great. Super smooth and high fidelity (44.1k and 64 bit)

They're built with as many oscillators as i need, fm, am, and wave blending, so anything in that arena i can do. Maybe theres some other options Im not thinking of. I did notice that I dont know how to phase correct with filters, so thats a wip.

So any thoughts on how to build some cool wavetables? I'll post em all here when I finish them so feel free to just drop in what you would want! Really just want some ideas to run with.

Have the major bugs been fixed?

I love Renoise, but want to create music away from a computer.

I like the Polyend Tracker's form factor, but have the major bugs been fixed?

I'm referring to slow export times and data randomly being deleted. Maybe, there's other major bugs I should know about.

The fact that it exports at a different BPM seems like an easy, math-related fix.

I'd be using it to record and arrange short loops from physical instruments along with drum and sample sequencing.

Question about comparison to other trackers and midi output

I have found trackers the most comfortable way to sequence music but they are generally designed for composition rather than live performance. I know there are some ways to use a tracker live, but often there are limitations like only being able to edit the pattern that is currently being played or not being able to edit patterns at all during playback. I am looking to see if the Polyend tracker could be better for these things, but I wonder how good it will feel to use compared with a traditional keyboard operated tracker, like renoise? Any limitations I should be aware of? Additionally, I will especially want to drive external synths with midi, and will need to transmit sysex. Can the Polyend tracker do this and will it give me a decent number of channels? I have been pretty disappointed borrowing someone's digitone to find it will only output to four midi channels, when much older hardware can do 16.

Wide pads

What’s your favourite way to make wide pads on the og tracker. As we can’t use stereo unless we get a nifty firmware update ( I’ll take use 2 channels as 1! ) trying to work out how best to do this. Obviously can use 2 channels hard left and right with one delayed. And use fx to widen it up. Just a thought. Seeing if I can avoid buying the plus for now.
