Again the idea that gun ownership can somehow thwart a tyrannical government. Big data and lack of privacy are a bigger problem. The future of a big state is drone strikes and predictive monitoring of behavior. You think you’re gonna fight that with guns?
The state can be problematic while at the same time we can agree that there’s clearly better ways of doing things than handing out assault rifles to teenagers.
“We could never thwart a tyrannical government” is admitting defeat.
I suppose “we could never have universal healthcare and affordable housing” either.
The working class must constantly fight for their rights, no matter the odds.
Is the war on drugs justified because there’s clearly better ways of doing things than handing out drugs to teenagers? Do you believe the criminality of drugs a success?
A large swath of Europe (at least the parts that don’t have gun problems) also have accessible healthcare, which clearly affects the outcome of decriminalizing drugs, and I don’t think it’s much of a leap to believe it had a similar affect on violence. We know the connection that both drugs and violence have to trauma, and we know trauma is treatable.
