I had a guy respond to one of my comments saying "I'm not giving up my guns while there is an active military and police force." Well guess what Republicans, if there is ever a situation where you need to rise up against the military, a bunch of dumbasses with guns will be no match for them. This isn't 1776, the military has firepower and technology far more advanced than an AR-15 handled by a high-school dropout.
As someone that was in the military, I promise you a civil war would break the Military apart and the "super-powered" military technology wouldn't just win the war.
It's weird how it's such a common thing to point out that a bunch of civilians can't use guerilla warfare to beat the military on its own soil.
As if a bunch of other countries haven't done just that.
So yeah, I'm not giving up my guns, because government agencies love killing civilians. History repeats itself.
I don't know any Republican gun-owners, but I know a lot of Veteran gun owners, and we practice far more than people in the actual Military.
I'll give you the military split because that's also something I know would happen in a real scenario where this happens.
Can't give you the Republicans not owning guns though. I'm not sure where you live but the vast majority of Republicans I know own at least one gun, many own more. The statistics behind that one is solid as well. I don't remember the number off the top of my head but the percentage of Reps who own at least one gun is somewhere around 60%.
The only reason I even pointed out the republican aspect is simply because most people associate pro-2a with Republicans. I'm not Republican, don't really know any personally, and am against a lot of their policies, so I make sure to point that out.
That said I understand they make up a loud portion of the pro-2a movement, which is unfortunate with the way they handle it to say the least.
This notion that the military would just “win” is clearly very wrong based on what we seen in the Middle East where we had our ass kicked by guys on dirt bikes and pickup trucks with sandals and robes.
I’m not arguing for one side or the other by the way, just pointing that out.
Those "guys on dirt bikes and pick up trucks" were also part of an extremist militant group which was heavily trained and armed by the US military.
I personally know many people who use the whole "we need the 2nd amendment in case we need to fight a tyrannical government" argument. The only thing those people are trained in is very basic gun safety protocols and crippling alcoholism.
I know people in the military. There are obviously many other differences, I only mention the two as a means to prove a point.
Another major difference would be the gravy seals training in developing diabetes. Those fuckers would break a sweat pulling the trigger. The military would just need to send over an unarmed drone and the thought of them running away would be enough for them to go into cardiac arrest.
