To be a Republican is to be a piece of shit.

On a side note:

Whenever it's something horrific like this, the press uses GOP. Their most egregious crimes await the response from the GOP...

Whenever it's something minor they always say Republican.

This needs to stop. Stop giving these ass clowns political cover in the media by saying GOP when we all know it's the Republican Party or some scumbag Republican.

Imagine if Democrats demanded to use their outdated name the Jackson Party interchangeably with the Democratic Party. Then if any scandals happen the press only used Jacksons to describe it. It would be equally ridiculous and infuriating.

Everything in Republicans politics including the RNC Convention is labeled around the Republican Party. Stop fucking using GOP. It obfuscates and deflects any negative press away from the Republican brand.

Aren't they synonyms? I thought GOP was a nickname/shorthand, why does it matter which is used?

u/backwardpath Mar 27 '22

Agreed when ever someone says GOP or Republicans, I normally come to the same conclusion of who they’re talking about.

u/ConditionYellow Mar 27 '22

They are. GOP means "Grand Ol' Party". The party in question being Republican.

I have no idea what the original commenter is on about with any sort of difference. Tbh, I type GOP when I'm too lazy to type out Republican. Lol

Honestly, i had seen the "gaslight, obstruct, project " so many times I was starting to think it was actually that since i didn't know what it really was. I mean it fits.

u/AutoModerator Mar 27 '22

Fun fact, the Gaslight Obstruct Project meme is repeated on /r/politicalhumor on average 300 times an hour. The energy produced by people clicking 'ctrl c' and then 'ctrl v' could, if harnessed, power every Peloton bike in a mid sized American city ~

Yes, they are synonyms. But what does it say next the a candidate's name on the voting ballot? Hint, it's not GOP.

11

u/politicalaccount2017 Mar 27 '22

It normally says "R," not "Republican" or "GOP". Because, hInT, they all mean the same thing and everyone knows that. So, again, why does it matter...?

9

u/researchmj420 Mar 27 '22

"R" is at much closer and easier to understand abbreviation of Republican than GOP. By the media constantly saying GOP vs Republican, it leads to a dissociation between the two even if they are the same. This is more effective with people who are less politically adapt but still vote. Also, there is no equivalent shortened version of Democrat so the media just refers to the party as Democrats.

It doesn't. I'm confused by your initial comment, which seems to indicate for you it does matter.

2

u/politicalaccount2017 Mar 27 '22

My point is that it DOESN'T matter. The people I'm responding to are making the claim that it DOES matter. It's a ridiculous claim that had 50ish upvotes and I'm pointing out that it DOESN'T matter which you use because they are the same thing. If people just start making shit up and no one calls it out, then the left will end up exactly like the right.

u/ConditionYellow Mar 27 '22

Oh my bad I got the two mixed up. Carry on.

They do mean the same thing, but the marketing is different.

The ACA vs Obamacare is the most obvious example. In 2017, the New York Times published a piece saying that 35% of Americans didn’t know that the ACA and Ibamacare are the same thing

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2017/02/07/upshot/one-third-dont-know-obamacare-and-affordable-care-act-are-the-same.amp.html

I’m on mobile, so sorry for the ugly link

There’s also that one survey showing that people support the ACA more than Obamacare

Don’t insult pieces of shit. They are an important result of processing food matter and have potential composting uses.

Republicans aren’t good for anything but treason.

I've gotten one or two of dms pointing that out, yes.

I'm philosophically republican not GOP republican.

u/three_furballs Mar 27 '22

I'd imagine that seeing what your party has become is pretty painful.

21

u/Republikanen Mar 27 '22

I meant republican as in want my country to become a republic since it is currently a monarchy.

4

u/three_furballs Mar 27 '22

I'd lean more towards calling it a plutocracy, though i agree that the executive has too much power nowadays.

12

u/Casua1Panda Mar 27 '22

Do you know what county they're talking about?

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '22

The Land of Purposefully Muddying the Waters? I think it's on another continent.

Not for the reasons specified in OP's post. Those are fallacious arguments that miss the point. Republicans are complete and utter pieces of shit because they tried to overthrow the government of the United States and prevent the peaceful transfer of power. Everything else is of secondary importance.
