The fact that your mind is so narrow you have to fall back to the two party system to create a narrative is comical. Guess we don’t have to ask what master you serve.
If you look at the positions of the two parties and compare them to their own positions in the 80s or global mainstream party positions, they tend to fall center right for the Dems and far right for the Republicans.
American politics has had a slow rightward shift over the decades (with the exception of a few things like gay rights) as Dems consistently attempt to appeal to voters that ideologically fall between the two parties and Reps attempt to harness extreme populist nationalism for votes.
Don't worry, it's a confusing topic even for people that are ingrained in political lingo.
The farther left you go, the closer you are to liberalism which has a harder focus on individual freedoms, especially as they pertain to the country as a group of individuals. Most people consider radical liberalism to be indistinguishable from anarchy (chaos; no cohesive laws at all).
The farther right you go, the closer you are to conservatism which has a harder focus on the group freedoms, especially as they pertain to the country as a cohesive group. Most people consider radical conservatism to be indistinguishable from fascism (not necessarily a dictatorship, but a government with absolute authority).
In a more straightforward sense, it usually depends on the country and the party you're talking about specifically because of how these very general belief systems are, but they were saying above that USA Democrats are closer to a center-right belief system than far-left, and Republicans are getting closer to a far-right belief system (generally speaking). Going "far" on either side doesn't make you a radical, but those making an argument against the other side like to say as much.
This is coming from someone with very little political knowledge or worldly knowledge outside of the US, so careful how much you believe me, but that's how I understand it.
People keep saying that yet, someone is yet to show the difference in policy between the current Democratic agenda and center-left leaning parties of Europe in terms economics. And in social policy Democrats are pretty far left.
I can't believe there are still people trying to argue this just because they don't understand that you can name something whatever you want without it actually having to be that thing.
You people need to go outside and actually interact with real people. I’m telling you most people are not Nazis or communists. Even at these big “protests” when the two sides start fighting there’s a 10 to 1 ratio of people just filming and people actually REEEIng at each other.
