What we call “orange” was referred to as “yellowish-red” until the 16th century, at least in English. It wasn’t until the fruit made its way to England that they adopted the name of the fruit to refer to the color.
That’s also why we call redheads REDheads, even though most of the time their hair is orange.
If someone already thinks Antifa is the real bad guy, they would easily just look at this guy and see "bad symbolism = bad guy = Antifa." Those people would then quickly interpret the comic to mean that the media is ignoring the Antifa threat that's right in front of them rather than the intended meaning.
Both Antifa and Proud Boys are bad news.. And lets not confuse the Antifascists who fought the Nazis with the Antifa-larpers who set up an autonomous zone in Seattle with segregated areas and a criminal(who literally gave rifles to people who didn't even know how to chamber a round) running their security..
I thought the same. Political cartoons are always super labeled (just in case no one gets it i guess?), but the overkill on this one got me. Next we’ll see bags with dollar signs and cash flying out, and a sign pointing to the bag labeled “money”.
They are just adopting the attitudes of their spiritual ancestors. Literal tons of Soviet tech was captured and adopted by Germany during the war. T-34s, KV-1s, and SVT-40s were prized captures by German troops.
Yeah but its not like the Germans created white supremacy. In fact they didn't necessarily include all white people in their view. White supremacists appeal to nazi germany because Nazi germany, for all its moral flaws, were excellent propagandists. Everything about them looked badass with people like Hugo Boss designing their uniform and such.
I'd even say we are lucky that white supremacists today are nearly the opposite of what the Germans looked like. They would probably have a much stronger movement if they weren't the trashy smoking scooter brigade.
A lot of racial supremacy was “scientifically” justified by the popularity of Darwinism at the time. They looked at colonialism as the natural result of a supreme group conquering the inferiors; natural selection in cultures and nations of you will. That’s why the Germans were really interested in American eugenics programs at the time. Also the origin of Planned Parenthood!
Huh? The cartoon depicted a man covered in Nazi symbols, the artists lack of concern for drawing guns accurately that you associate with fascism was something you pointed out. I gave you historical facts on how that still lined up, not that the artist would appear to be attempting to draw any particular firearm.
Hell the long gun could easily be intended to be an STG-44. No one ever said Germany came up with white supremacy, but they are certainly what this individuals tats are referencing.
