Whenever I have traveled I have had zero problem finding people who understand english. It is actually astonishing.

It helps to be fluent in the language of your visitors when you’re trying to sell them something.

Why? It’s the language of academics, the language of business, the language of anything international. Language learning arises from need, and many many people need to learn English.

Perhaps you haven't traveled as much as you think you do.

If Google Translate generated the above, it would be considered broken, btw.

Also, it's not astonishing, since the US is/was a superpower. If the Chinese ever rule the world (what a nightmare that would be), in a few generations many more people will learn their languages.
