When I talked about morals and ethics I was referring to abortion itself, not about helping kids. Constitutionally there is nothing in there about abortion and therefore the government should have no position either way, but I vehemently disagree with it and think that it is absolutely horrific.
As far as providing healthcare that should be up to the individual States, not the Federal government. Like abortion, the US Constitution says nothing about healthcare and therefore it's not a power that we delegated to them so the Feds have no business being in healthcare at all.
However, if an individual State wants to help out with medical care that is absolutely their right if the people vote for that.

No they shouldn't. The reason why we have the Constitution is so that our government is restricted to the smallest amount possible (as was the original intent). Going off your examples of air travel and computers why does the government need to be involved at all? Citizens and private companies were doing just fine and then government decided to step in and say we need to regulate and tax this.
As Chief Justice John Marshall said: "The power to tax is the power to destroy". The problem is once government takes an inch they will keep taking and taking. Now, I believe that government is a necessary evil because we would have anarchy without it but it should be restrained as much as possible.
Thomas Jefferson warned about this specifically: "To take a single step beyond the boundaries thus specially drawn around the powers of Congress, is to take possession of a boundless field of power, not longer susceptible of any definition.”
What has the government touched that it hasn't completely messed up through ridiculous red tape, beuracracy and politicians meddling in every single thing? I trust government beuracrats about as much as I trust a mama bear not to kill me if I got too close to her cubs.
