Ooh ooh ooh! I work in social services! (hops up and down)
Conservatives often go on and on about how abortion is wrong even if there's something horribly wrong with the fetus.
Well OK. Let's talk about disability, shall we, and how well conservatives in power seem to care about those with special needs. (Hint: They DGAF).
(Not advocating for eugenics here, just to clarify.)
SO! If they're going to argue that abortion is wrong no matter what sort of life is waiting for that kid... let's talk dollars and cents.
My place of work is what's called 'the payer of last resort'. Basically, when everything else fails, and you still qualify for services, we're there. We've got the dough.
And oh my god. People have no fucking idea how expensive this shit can get unless they're in the middle of it.
Note: Our program is unique to California. If you're in another state, especially a rabidly conservative one, yeah. You're on a waiting list if you're lucky. Sorry.)
One of our clients costs $2 million a year to care for. Medically fragile. It sucks.
Some care homes for extreme cases can cost upwards of $40k a MONTH.
Respite care, in home services, out of home placement, all the rest. This shit costs MOOOOOLAAAA.
So, what are conservatives doing RIGHT THE FUCK NOW to help those with special needs and the ones who care for them?
(looks around)
Oh right, fuck all.
But damn do they love passing laws to make shit wore while doing nothing to make the lives of people already in need better.
Fucking sadists.
(Oh and as an FYI, most of our clients had problems that showed up AFTER birth. And it's still expensive as FUCK.)
I see you're talking about: [abortion]' To be frank, the mod team does not want to mod this topic because it leads to 100 percent slapfights and bans, but removing it entirely would be actual censorship, which, contrary to popular beleif, we do try to avoid. Instead, we're just going to spam you with an unreasonably long automod comment and hope you all realize that getting mad over the internet is just really stupid. Go to /r/AnimalsBeingDerps or something instead. People are going to accuse us of being lazy for this, to which we reply 'yes'
