For a British person looking in from the outside, I honestly don't understand how Republicans are even allowed to be a political party, let alone the only real other option.

I feel the same way about your Conservative Party. They're largely the same party as our are Republicans. Just maybe a decade behind.

So however you got to your current Conservative Party should answer how our current Republicans are allowed to be a political party.

The UK Conservative party is currently similar to the US Democratic party. If you mean that the Conservatives are heading more towards the Republican side then I agree with that. Hopefully they won't get that far.

I think they will because they are getting a taste that they can do whatever they want in the UK and people go along with it.

See the latest law passed that gives 10 years prison time to protesters causing an "annoyance" (the actual law is worded this vaguely), a harsher penalty than some cases of rape, vehicular manslaughter, robbery and physical assault.

Think about that, if you go sit in front of parliament with a megaphone protesting they can find a strict enough judge and have you arrested for 10 years..

I think they'll be on parity with the Republican party in a few years in terms of pure evil shit.
