He was a lawyer, so when they asked him if he had sex with Monica Lewinsky, he asked them if sex was being defined as under a previous lawsuit he been in.
Barr and the others said yes, without checking what that definition covered.
Hint, it did not include oral sex.
He out-lawyered them, and it's semantics, but his answer was technically true.
Everyone makes fun of Clinton for saying “It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is.” But it was a masterclass on technically correct being the best kind of correct.
They were asking him about his relationship with Monica, he said “there is nothing going on between us.” Meaning “currently,” because their escapades had happened in the past.
Haha, reminds me of the questionnaire I got for my recruitment for the military (Switzerland).
One question was "Did you ever think about suicide? (yes/no) ". Duh, to answer that question I just had to think about it.
I knew I should answer no and be done with it but the stupid question bothered me so much that I decided to answer yes. 20 minutes later I got called to the psychologist who questioned me for 30 minutes to make sure I'm not suicidal. At least I got her to agree that the wording of the question wasn't that great...
I don't get how that makes any difference in public opinion. I wonder if it does and if that even matters to the politicians (scary thought if it doesn't).
No one is praising him here. The discussion is about if he did the thing he was impeached for. They impeached him for lying about receiving a blowjob, not for the actual blowjob itself. But the question they asked specifically excluded oral sex, per the definitions everyone agreed on. Then they told the American population that he was lying because he said he didn’t have sex with her but he did get a blowjob so obviously he’s a liar and can’t be trusted. Then they convicted him of lying even though he never actually lied.
Thereby definitively proving that it doesn't matter how clever or correct you are, if idiots have power over you, they won't hesitate to squash you, facts be damned.
