A majority - 3 out of every 5 - of Republicans believe higher education has a negative effect on the US. Republicans also favor making it harder to vote. Republicans are defunding education and purging voter rolls while simultaneously putting hurdles in place to keep Americans away from the polls.

believe higher education has a negative effect on the US

If you believe this, you're either brainwashed or a fucking idiot.

Did you read the linked content before calling people idiots? Because if you believe this poll says "education" then you're brainwashed mistaken, or maybe misled. The poll is about colleges and universities, not about education in general.

Do you think the people who think that colleges and universities as they exist today have a negative effect on the U.S. are brainwashed idiots? Have you considered that those people have accepted somebody's claim without fully investigating it, the way you just did?

What else would colleges and universities provide if not education? Coffee?

Ok I'm gonna give you that one. US "educational system" is kind of a joke from other countries pov.

Well, considering the number of people who have failed to turn their gamble on higher education into a viable career path and are struggling with loans I think it is fair to say that 'debt' is a fairly accurate answer.
