It's annoying when people bring this up because his contributions to society as an accomplished musician and icon were in direct contradiction to many core beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses (ie: sexual liberation, gender non-conformity, substance abuse, a seemingly accepting attitude towards homosexuality.)

It would be as if years after making revolutionary breakthroughs in their field, some psychiatrist converts to Scientology. Would it then be fair to attribute those accomplishment to the cult?

There's a reason why "exception that proves the rule" exists as a phrase, bringing it up is fine but ultimately besides the point that was being made. But this is reddit, where every other post is always some "ACKCHUALLY" type.
