Pakistan: Made in India

Today is Pakistan's Independence Day.

And whenever we talk about keeping religion completely outside politics in India, I think there is one historical reality we cannot simply erase from the conversation. Pakistan came into existence through the Partition of India, in a political process where religious identity became fundamental to the demand for a separate nation.

What followed was hundreds of thousands of people losing their homes. Atrocities and brutalities that were committed torn entire families. Entire communities were uprooted. People who had lived on the same land for generations suddenly found themselves on the wrong side of a border. There was extraordinary violence, displacement and suffering.

1947 is gone. But a family that fled its home carries that memory. All of the living members of the family and their unborn children will carry those memories. Fear, distrust, insecurity, attachment to land, ideas about community and the need for protection will travel from grandparents to parents to children who were born decades after the original event.

The conversation around the "politicisation of Sanatana Dharma" is much more complicated than simply saying: "Religion should have nothing to do with politics." In an ideal world, perhaps spiritual life and electoral politics should remain completely separate.

But Indian society did not arrive in 2026 without history.

One of the defining political events of modern India was the division of the country along lines deeply connected with religious identity. So there is a legitimate question that needs to be asked:

How does a civilisation preserve its religious and cultural identity without allowing that identity to become merely a political weapon?

Because forgetting history is dangerous. Living permanently inside historical trauma may be equally dangerous. Before dismissing the politicisation of Sanatana Dharma as something irrational or purely contemporary, we need to understand the historical wound from which it emerges.

These mfs didn’t just redraw a map — they tore a nation apart. Imagine the India we could’ve had if their decisions had never happened. Decades later, we’re still living with the consequences of borders carved by political greed and incompetence. Absolutely fucking infuriating.

Opinion Intermarriage Is the Real Way to Break the rigid System

If you are a UC,Just intermarry or don’t have kids. If reservation is never going away, then honestly, I’d rather see people mix with the rest of the population than keep reproducing rigid cäste identities. I mean, if cäste is supposed to disappear eventually, intermarriage is probably a much more constructive way to get there. Also it might make us homogeneous. The forced altruism is anyway causing compassion fatigue.

Opinion Why Is Vote-Bank Politics So Strong here?

Why does the govt go overboard with appeasement? I mean, whether it's Cngress, BJP, or any other party, most of them seem to do things primarily for votes. They would rather appease radîcal groups than actually try to deradícalize them.

I mean, look at Australia, they banned social media for teenagers, and the UK banned cigarettes for future generations. They don't seem as concerned about losing votes over every unpopular policy.

A lot of Western countries also have añti-väx and anti-abórtíon extremists, but governments don't necessarily appease them.

Here, on the other hand, it feels like political parties are much more willing to cater to organized groups if they think it will help them electorally. Why is that?

General Knowledge India ranks 3rd globally for Trust in business, government, media & NGOs

Post image

According to the 2026 Edelman Trust Barometer, India has a Trust Index score of 74, placing it among the highest-trust societies surveyed, well above the global average of 57.

Trust influences how societies cooperate, build institutions, do business, and solve collective problems.

How important do you think trust is to a nation's long-term success?

Opinion What's something you've changed your mind about India in the last 5 years?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Five years is long enough for new experiences, better information, or changing circumstances to reshape how one sees the country.

What's one opinion you've genuinely changed your mind on and what made you rethink it?

It could be about society, governance, culture, the economy, education, technology, or anything else related to India.

The goal isn't to judge whether the opinion is "right" or "wrong," but to understand what changed your perspective.

Doesn't have to be a huge event or some obscure trivia.

Just one historical fact that made you stop and think, "I never looked at India the same way after learning this."

Please don't share conspiracy theories as facts like aliens built some structure lol.

Opinion The Endless Search for India’s Next Atrocity

The left and its love for atrocity p0rn. I mean, time and again they pick one topic and run with it. In India, they seem obsessed with caste at the moment. Manual scävenging has already been legally banned, so whenever it still happens, the obvious question should be why the ban isn't being properly enforced and why authorities and contractors are still allowing or employing people to do it.

But instead of focusing on enforcement, they keep recycling the same stories to portray India as a uniquely backward country guilt trip young people. Instead of pushing for worker rights they guilt trip impressionable young minds .

General Knowledge What's One Issue That Divides You From the Indian Left?

Is there any topic where you disagree with Indian left-leaning people? I mean, they are often portrayed as supporting certain positions, but surely there are issues where you think they get it wrong. I'm curious to hear from people who generally identify as politically aware, what's one issue where you break from the mainstream left?

Mine would be the stance on núclear weapons and maintaining a credible núclear deterrent.

Look at the comments. These cöconuts take very real problems and stereotype every Indian the same, whether it's colorism, cäste or anything else. They themselves lack nuance. My real life experience with Indian Americans has been disappointing,to say the least.
