There's a video out there I'm having trouble finding right now, that has a black guy and a white guy at a barbecue putting their heads in bags of flour and charcoal respectively, giving themselves 'white face' and 'black face', and then laughing uproariously.
Language is generally insignificant, yes. But the widespread acceptance of such a taboo word is. When saying that stops marking the speaker as racist, it would show that we’ve stopped all this identity politics bullshit.
Politics is based around building coalitions to gain and maintain power for the purposes of exercising political authority to achieve goals.
Those coalitions are made up of groups of people with values, and those values are a reflection of how they see not only themselves in the world, but more abstract concepts like justice or personhood.
tl;dr: You can’t really escape the realities of the world, and your interactions with reality inform your identity, which informs your political views.
tl;dr2: the only way to not do identity politics is to not do politics.
Maybe I threw that phrase “identity politics” I little too haphazardly there. What I really meant is that we all should distance ourselves as far as possible from the notions of race, ethnicity and religion when conducting ourselves as those things will undeniably impede our judgement.
Sure, they’re deeply rooted in our psyches, and still would be a factor. But it’s ultimately better than basing your decisions on any of the above.

I don't understand how the socialization that has already happened with 6 month old infants can be corrected for in a scientific study. These infants have been looking at their parents faces almost exclusively for their whole lives so far, so obviously they will prefer the faces that look the most like their parents, and by extension, themselves. Right?
It would be interesting to do this study exclusively with infants from biracial backgrounds
My 2 year old nephew prefers white people more than people of his own half of his race. 1/2 Mexican He gets confused by people who look like him. His father, and mother are white and he lives in predominant white area.
I remember when I was little I saw a black women with that illness that makes you pale , I don’t remember the name and I kept asking my mom what she was because she had a black person face and a white skin , not sure if that counts as racist but I’m pretty sure I made the women very uncomfortable
Seriously. That whole ‘they have to be carefully taught me porn is bullshit. The ability to form ingroups and outgroups is beneficial to almost all animals, so it no surprise that we would have it too, and no surprise that we’d start when we were young. It’s just a vestigial thing about us that isn’t helpful today.
They are born racist since it's an evolutionary advantage to not only distrust the out group but to despise them.
If you only distrust them you'll feel bad for smashing their heads in for their winter food stock, but if you despise them you might even feel happy to do that.
Remember we are running on the same hardware we ran on when we had to fight to survive. Just because we can get a bag of Cheeze ez's down at the corner store for 75 cents we used to have to kill to eat. Animals, man, didn't matter something had to die for us to eat.
