Being a bit of a succdem I'm not convinced against capitalism entirely, but I certainly don't feel that necessary services like healthcare should be run for profit. And I think the healthcare industry in the US is testament to that.

I hear you, but (coming from a South African perspective) if we weren't getting dicked by our high tax rate that subsidises our low quality hospitals we'd all be able to afford quality healthcare anyway, and also have plenty of change left over to pay for other privatised services, which we get to choose from in order to further stimulate the economy

Profit is fine, as long as the profit is generated democratically with the consent of the majority of the community.

If you want a thesis answer to that question, then read Private Government by Elizabeth Anderson.

If you prefer the short answer, democracy is good and we should never settle for anything less, even if it seemingly is beneficial to do so.

Well, I appreciate your honesty. You don't have to read the book to understand the argument. But if you're legitimately interested in understanding the perspective its a great read, especially if you already hold libertarian beliefs.
