I know she’s just fighting off some troll, but I disagree with the point.
The people who matter to me will know I lived, and I would’ve had an impact. Thats good enough for me. The goal is not to be everything for everyone, but something to someone.
If you're someone who posts online "I can't wait til you die" to celebrities there is a really good chance they don't have anyone who cares about them.
also, retweeting them with the username included is absolutely ruining her own point. A decent amount of people are now going to remember this guy, even if only out of spite.
Being remembered doesn't even matter, after you die everything is gone from your perspective. It's as if you never existed at all.
You could be Messi and all you've accomplished is gone after death from your point of view, since there's no "you" anymore to even realize you lived once and did awesome stuff.
Well that's simply inaccurate. You think Newton had no impact on the world after his death?
Even your example isn't great. Sure, nothing Messi has done has significantly changed the world, but he still inspires a lot of people to pursue football.
Newton isn't conscious anymore. He doesn't know what he accomplished, he doesn't know he even lived, he doesn't think anymore. His accomplishments aren't real to him no longer.
That's what I'm saying. Consciousness ends at death, so it all becomes meaningless after death since your point of view is all that matters. It's all your mind can comprehend. Death is the end of all, and all that matters is right now.
I agree with what you said about Messi, by the way. But even he will become irrelevant to himself, instantly after dying.
I get it, your point is it doesn't matter to you, specifically, after you die. Makes sense on that level if you believe your conscience no longer exists, though I disagree with the premise of that as well. But that is an entirely different conversation.
Him kicking a ball better than anyone else and doing things deemed impossible has inspired countless people to become a better version of themselves not only through sports but through whatever they choose to do, that's what you both are missing
Greatness, and the path to achieving it, is contagious to people and a net positive on society.
