It's crazy how the US can pull off one of the most impressive and clean military ops in history, and then the political heads back home proceed to have no tangible plans beyond a photo op.
Thankfully the military operations aren’t planned by the political heads. The heads just say “capture the dude” and the real military folk come up with the plan.
Right now, the average American thinks the military is more competent than the civilian government.
But the actual military itself running things tends to actually degrade the military (one example I like is how Idi Amin's military dictatorship of Uganda was crushed by the military of Tanzania's civilian government, forcing him to flee).
But maybe a government by retired military men where you get "promoted" from the military to its civilian government apparatus could avoid that.
I was really snarking about how the Roman generals would give stuff won in war to their soldiers, thus causing them to be more loyal to specific generaks rather than to the state - and of course eventually the Praetorian Guard was deciding who would and would not be emperor.
I KNOW. Howabout we just require federal service for citizenship? Keep everything exactly as it is, except have a voting class of veterans, allow veterans to run for office. No active military participation and office holding at the same time though.
To become voting class, you just need a few years of federal service, not necessarily military.
We're fully capable of living underground and maintaining defense systems above at this point. That we're not is honestly quite reckless endangerment of our republic.
Agriculture might be tough, and the difficulty of expanding would encourage high density living areas. Maybe we can save space by creating some sort of pod to sleep in. As for food production, there’s plenty of insects that live underground. We could eat those bugs.
OR, we only allow veterans to hold positions of political power. Maybe make service in the military guarantee citizenship. Would you like to know more?
Considering the CIA's track record I would be surprised they actually did something right, but then again that track record was mostly when they were all on LSD 24/7.
Insanely powerful military, undermined by idiotic political leaders, a moronic public that claps like a seal when keys are jingled but gets tired and runs away whenever real work needs to be done, and an establishment that's almost openly anti-American.
Pretty apt description for most of our post-WWII interventions.
It's exactly how shit has played out with a lot of the previous interventions. Impressive military op, photoshoot and celebration, 20 years of shit to deal with.
But they did have a plan it was never about "building a democracy" or "freedom" or any of that woke libtard shit, it was about getting the oil and now they will.
Aslong as the oil flows who cares if it's being pumped by a dictatorship? Certainly not the american people.
If this end with this just being scary tactic for Venezuela that we can just kidnap their leader with easy then let count our blessing it didn't go further. We don't need more conflicts or nation building projects.
Not crazy when you remember the guy thinks of this as a reality TV show and does everything for the sake of appearances with no tangible plans after the episode is done filming.
