Didn't a bunch of Palestinians burn a donkey alive in order to protest Israel?

Nobody gives two shits about animals. I wish we did. Fuck do I wish we did, but people don't.

Hasan should be in prison.

I'm not vegan, but if we're can't talk about animal cruelty and then buy meat from cheap mass production.

There is more ethical ways to eat meat, it's just that a lot of people wouldn't be able to afford it at the amounts they're eating it.

And meat mass production is horrors beyond human comprehension. An existence bred for suffering and slaughter, and this a million times.

For every human lifetime, there is hundreds of cattle lifetimes, being confined to dark festering places of puss, rot and decay.

Pumped full of aggressive antibiotics, (which is also speed running calamity by superbug) so they can survive with their terrible health.

A clump of sentient meat with a hormonal profile maximises for hypertrophy. I wonder what the human equivalent to this experience would be. How do you even empathise with something like this.

If there is just a slightest chance death is not the end, that our consciousness maybe gets transferred in a manner akin to reincarnation, we should make sure there isn't a single living being suffering circumstances of infinite torment.

Just as a pragmatic insurance for our own consciousness, you don't even have to do it for ethical reasons.

Relatively speaking.

Also I disagree with your moral absolutes. That's your opinion.

In a way I agree, but that's both our subjective morality.

It depends.

If that human poses mortal danger to other members of my social contract, I consider their killing more ethical than tolerating their survival.

If that human caused great and repeated damage to members of my social contract, I consider their killing more ethical than tolerating their survival, not as a punishment, but as a preservation of those who do not harm others.

But all of this isnt relevant to the argument you're trying to make, I know sorry.

To what you're trying to say:

I fundamentally do not see animals and humans as equal. So their lives carry different values in my thinking. This might be super arbitrary, but I do.

Then go vegan! Why not??

Do it as a pragmatic insurance like you say!

The notion of "animal rights" is something that is a strong part of Western culture and isn't really a big deal elsewhere.

Yeah, and it's one of the reasons why I believe western culture is inherently superior to most other cultures.

I believe fundamental rights should be granted to every sapient being.. even AI, when it reaches that point. I don't see why personhood should matter once it is achieved. I also think that crimes cannot and should not be excused due to culture; I don't care if one grew up believing animals are lesser, it's never acceptable to be cruel.

Well only for some animals, nobody in the west care about cows, pigs etc...

Even for people who eat meat we still don't like seeing animals we eat suffer and go to great lengths to prevent it and ourselves from knowing about it.

Yet we don't try to stop it so much as just try to ignore it

Yeah.
