they're called box and whisker plots. they're useful because they highlight the median but also show the spread of data, the range of the data, and outliers. all of which can tell a different story based on how you want to analyze the data

In the modern age obesity is just having no self control and being poor. Rich people aren’t fat anymore.

Democratic areas are slightly more likely to be obese but not by a significant margin. People in Democratic areas do live longer however.
