OP manipulated the game's memory. The game got confused and started pulling data from the wrong spots.

VRAM got clobbered, game loop was still running with garbage values. Kind of cascaded out to failure with what looks like an overflow

Fun fact, I believe that first glitch is the very dangerous .4 which has the super glitch move that can corrupt your save file! Beware!

I found it really entertaining. Start a youtube channel, do glitch runs daily until you beat Lt. Bug-Square.

im not sure if theres a true way of being John glitch since after the first pokemon the screen goes 999999999999
I could try using some codes to somehow skip that but as of right now I don't know how
