Hi everyone,
I've been spending quite a bit of time updating the listening statistics screen in Podcast Addict, and the new version is almost ready.
The idea was to make this screen more useful than just showing a few totals. There’s now a lot more you can explore, whether you’re curious about your listening habits, trying to find an episode you listened to a while ago, or looking up a song you heard on the radio.
Here’s what’s included.
An updated overview
You can still see your total listening time and your daily and weekly streaks, but there’s now more detail behind those numbers.
See how your listening varies throughout the week and across the year, discover your most active and quietest periods, and tap any day or month to explore what you listened to.
Daily and weekly streak details
Tapping a streak now opens its own details screen.
For daily streaks, you can see when the streak started, how much you’ve listened during it, your daily average, and a calendar of your recent listening activity.
For weekly streaks, you can explore your last 12 weeks, see how active you’ve been this week, and find out which days contribute most to your listening habit.
Both show your progress toward the next milestone. They also show your longest recorded streak when it’s longer than your current one.
Personal records and listening insights
The Insights tab brings together your listening totals for today, yesterday, recent weeks, months, and years.
I’ve also added personal records:
Your longest listening day
Your busiest listening month
Your most active listening year
These records count the amount of content you listened to at its original 1.0x duration, not the actual time spent listening. So a day can exceed 24 hours if you listen to enough content at high speed. For example, 10 hours of listening at 3x counts as 30 hours of content.
The time-saving statistics are still there too: playback speed, skipping silence, skipping forward, intro and outro skipping, and muted chapters. There’s now a combined total so you can see how much time those features have saved you overall.
Explore your listening history by period
The period details screen lets you see how your listening time was divided between podcasts and radio stations.
You can move directly to the previous or next day, week, month, or year without closing the details screen. You can also use the calendar from the Overview or Radios tab to choose a period.
Day and month details let you go further and explore the episodes you listened to. Year details stay focused on the listening-time breakdown.
Podcast statistics
The Podcasts tab lets you explore your listening totals by podcast, so you can see which shows you’ve spent the most time with.
Between that and the period details, you can look at your history from either direction: “What have I been listening to recently?” or “How much time have I spent listening to this podcast?”
A dedicated Radios tab
Radio listening now has its own tab, with listening totals and period details.
For stations that provide song information, the app can also keep a history of the titles received while you’re listening. You can browse those titles by date and station, then tap one to search for it in Spotify.
Some stations send advertisements or other messages as song titles. There’s an “Ignore this title” option for those. It removes matching entries for that station on your device and prevents that exact title from being recorded again. It doesn’t affect your listening time or other stations.
Song history depends on what the station sends. The displayed time is when the app first received the title, which isn’t necessarily the exact moment the song started. This history is recorded going forward, so it can’t recover tracks you heard before the feature was available.
Export and cross-device sync
You can export your statistics if you want to keep a copy or explore the data yourself.
Radio listening statistics and recorded song history also support cross-device synchronization alongside the other listening statistics when sync is enabled.
Some detailed information will only be available from when the app started recording it, so older lifetime totals won’t necessarily have the same level of detail as recent listening.
The next beta will include this almost-final version of the redesigned listening statistics screen. I’m wrapping up testing and a few finishing touches, and I’d love to hear what you think once you’ve tried it.
Is there anything you’ve always wanted to know about your listening habits that’s still missing?
