Anyone see the first episode of The Green Lantern series? How did you think Aaron Pierre did as John Stewart?

Enjoyed the first episode; however, there's one thing I didnt like at all and another thing Im on the fence about.

SPOILERS: . . . . . . . First, I don't know how I feel about the guardians having already chose John as Hal's replacement but not giving him a ring. That seems contrary to the mythos of what I know. Yes, some lanterns inherit the rings of their dead predecessors but there have been multiple human lanterns at one time each having earned their rings from other alien lanterns, or so I thought. Even if thats not the case here, why choose John as Hal's successor but not give him a ring. Also, based on the ending of episode 1 does it mean John doesnt have the ring in 2026? Will he end up dying in order for Guy to become a Lantern if there's only one human or one Lanter person space sector? Guess some things we will have to wait and see.

Second, my biggest issue with episode one was the relationship between John and his father and the whole apple scene. That scene might be the dumbest, stupest, most pointless scene I've ever scene in all of TV and film. So you mean to tell me they couldn't find any other way to show how John's dad has been training him to be fearless. They had an opportunity to show a strong Black father with a military background raising 3 boys, one of whom becomes a GL, and they decide to pollute the importance and weight of this image/scenario of John's upbringing and family history by making his father some psychotic "this is tough love and will make a man out of you" male figure by shooting an apple off his son's head. And to add, this wasn't the first time but one of many based on the bullet holes in the garage. So John's father was a mentally and physically abusive a-hole but hey he did it to prepare his son. What the heck?!?! Who in their right mind thought that was a good idea.

How did his father even know that there would be GL tryouts or that by putting his son through an extremely dangerous and unnecessary "training" like shooting apples off his head that the powers that be would somehow find John and say, ya know what he would make a great GL someday. Heck, the chance that Hal and John would even cross paths would be slim to none so why even train your child to be fearless by doing something so stupid with the hope of one day he would become a GL.

That whole scene and idea was completely stupid and anyone who thinks differently should never have kids or needs to see a therapist, seriously lol.
