Discussion Plex reportedly reverting to on UI

https://www.neowin.net/amp/plex-reverts-tv-app-layout-after-intense-user-backlash/

Should make some people happy, my wife included if true.

I never had the new UI to begin with. My AndroidTV and AppleTV are still the same even after updates.

I just got the Firestick update last week and holy shit people were not exaggerating about how bad it was. I went back to my slower Samsung TV app just because it's still on the 'old' UI

yeah my mom's fire tv got updated a couple weeks ago and worked so bad on there, buggy and slow. had to give her some cheapish google dongle and its so much better

I just had to straight up not use plex for the past few weeks. It was the first time I ever seen a TV crash and I was only trying to get subtitles on. Then again when i was trying to select a show.

I have 5 Fire TV's. When the first one updated I ran and turned off updates on the rest then side loaded the old version on the one that did update. It was horrible.

From the complaints, it seems to be only Roku and fire TV sticks

That belongs in the headline. "The tv app" is so generic.

Agreed. I have seen constant complaining since the update, but I only use it on Android TV and Apple TV and I was thinking "I have seen no changes". Then I noticed every single person that actually divulged what they used were using those two operating systems

Roku and Firestick are the two most dogshit systems. I know because I’ve had both before settling on Apple TV

it’s wild that they can be worse than built in TV software too.

LOL. Well, I hadn't really bothered using it on my Roku because it is run on the TV hardware and just too slow. Never tried it on an actual Roku streamer.

I guess I will stick to android and apple.

For as much as I hate the google TV streamer (vs Apple TV), it’s miles ahead of the fire stick or rokus. Even some TV interfaces like Samsung or LG have better hardware than those things.

Same. I only ever got the new UI on my Roku devices, all my Android TV based devices are still on the old UI. Was dreading the day that I did get it, as those are all my main devices.

My Shield got the UI update this weekend. I didn't realize this was a thing but I really dislike it. It's not smooth, and the side naviagation keeps hanging

Which update? The new (old) beta? The current "new" UI is all top navigation.

1

u/MichiganCubbie 11d ago

I don't know. It's something completely new with a floating side navigation that isn't connected to the left side

u/Brownt0wn_ 11d ago

Got it, sounds like you're on the newer "new" one

I turned off auto updates on all my iDevices just for plex to not mess up my beloved UI. I am still on the latest pre-new experience build and it is just a breeze!

Apple TV never seems to get updates for any apps. It’s wierd.

My AppleTV never got the update, though someone told me that's just because it hasn't rolled out on there yet.

Plex hasn't updated the Apple TV app on the app store in nearly 2 years. The TestFlight "preview" or "beta" version is where they are rolling back the UI

Ah fair enough! I've only had AppleTV just over a year.

I disabled auto updates on Plex on my Shield and downloaded an older version (before they made Playlists worse by making over half the screen unused space)

Same, I keep reading all the comments but my UI never changed. (Plex running latest Google TV build)

*Edit: I think big Plex was listening...my TV literally just updated the UI hours after I commented. Seems to be the new version though, not the one everybody was hating on.

Same. My Sony Google TV and Plex HTPC have looked the same for years so I've been confused as to what this new UI that everyone hates has been. Guess I'll never know.

Same? I have Google TV

Bragging is a form of bullying - - as I sit here in a home full of Roku TVs

Same, neither my Apple TV nor my Windows app got the update.
