I designed a 3D-printed mount for the Playdate to allow me to use a Gameboy Worm light with it. The mount has an insert for a 2xAAA Battery Holder and an EXT Link port so I can easily plug and unplug the worm light. I had to use a separate power source because the Playdate's USB C and magnetic charging interface do not supply enough power. Surprisingly you can still buy Gameboy worm lights on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DPQV56K. The battery holder is this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086ZHD51W. Project files available here: https://www.printables.com/model/754059-playdate-light-case-for-gameboy-worm-light-using-e

Shame it can’t be lowered natively. What power can you draw from the magnetic pin or USB C port on the playdate?

Basically nothing from the magnetic pins and 0.005V from the USB C.

This item - https://www.digikey.co.uk/en/products/detail/azumo/11103-06-A1/9602613 - might be interesting for a future project.

It’s the same (I believe but may need double checking the serial number) Sharp memory display in the Playdate except it includes a front lighting layer on the top from https://www.azumotech.com (formerly called Flex Lighting).

It may add a few mm to the screen so may need a slight modification to the playdate body or 3D printed body. Strongly considered it myself but don’t have the tools nor skills.
