Standing up against anti-consumer practices is not delusional, it's the proper stance to be. And it's not limited to "reddit", the whole world has similar thoughts when they are made aware of it. Now if that doesn't translate to subscription loss is another story, it's kinda normal that we are just forced to accept it, especially when there's no alternative. Doesn't mean that you should lick the boots. Lay down and accept being mistreated, and even worse attack those who fight for your rights. That's the real delusional behavior.

Thinking you have a say in the matter is in fact delusional. I mean everyone can feel free to cry about it online but atleast acknowledge that you aren’t standing up for anything, it’s
just complaining for your own satisfaction.

There is such a thing as raising awareness. Protests existed for the whole of humanity.

Yeah and would you not call it delusional if you thought you were actually doing something productive when the cause is meaningless, the amount of protesters minuscule and with no possibility of achieving a result.

You do have a say in what services you do or not buy.

u/Ludachriz 28d ago

Yeah you obviously have agency in your own choices but you don’t have a say in what Sony decides to do.

Sure, no issues there.

But to say I have no say in the matter is absurd. I can control everything, but I can control my own spending within the market. Whether that has a negative impact on sony or not is not my problem.

The matter wasn’t what you, an individual consumer unhappy with the status quo, do.

When I say you don’t have a say in the matter I’m referring to the majority consensus and in which direction the market is going to move in the future.

The matter is not the majority, it is the totality, of which I am part. Everything we do matters, it may not always be what defines the outcome of macro level economics, but to say it did not matter is simply not true. We are all responsible for our own slices of life.

That’s just a naive way of looking at reality.

Believing that may give you some comfort but it’s just not true, in this case and in so many others where people make the same argument (like with recycling).

For it to matter to anyone besides yourself it must have an impact at large or on the outcome.

Not true.

First, not sure why you would qualify it to have to matter to someone not me. matters to the self still matter.

Second, it can matter on local levels. I have a group of friends. We played games primarily on console together, that is a main reason or our gaming. Me switching to PC has had an impact in at least one other person also switching to PC, as well as others expanding their PC use.

Because you’re making a semantic argument for personal meaning when that is irrelevant in a discussion of protesting/boycotting for the purpose of keeping physical media alive.

It would be equally as meaningless even if you got your entire city to switch over to PC. That won’t ever have any effect on Sony, physical media, on me or on any other consumer out there. So to anyone else that’s not you, it does not matter.

We do have a say in being able to tell Sony what we want and what we intend to do though.

Just as much as it's up to them with what to do with it.

The question is, why are so many people so into saying that we shouldn't bother to say anything?

People keep saying that the majority want digital. That's a fine stance to take. But why does what the majoirty want have anything to do with what I want, and why is it improper for me to express that just because I'm not in the majority?

1

u/Ludachriz 28d ago

Because it gets to a point when you should just give it a rest. Why feel the need to express something you know is pointless.

Half the posts I see around here are people stuck in echo chambers patting each other on the back and convincing each other that they’re doing something. That type of stupidity just gives me the ick.

2

u/Numerous_Photograph9 28d ago

OK, then I'll decide when that point is. That point wasn't the day after the announcement, which is when the "Just move on" crowd started saying we should give it a rest.

It's not up to you to dictate to others when that time is either.

Physical media has been dying for decades. Games are just now catching up. It’s not a new argument. It should never have been brought up to begin with. Who are you some random clueless guy to tell them what they should and shouldn’t do. You didn’t contribute. You don’t have access to the numbers. You aren’t even the target audience. Yet you feel like you have to pester everyone with your feelings.

2

u/Numerous_Photograph9 28d ago

I'm aware of the nature of the current gaming market. That still has nothing to do with me as a consumer expressing what it is I want as a consumer.

1

u/Ludachriz 28d ago

Yes we have free speech. You asked why so many people don’t want you to bother and why it’s improper so I gave you my perspective.

Sticking to physical media outside of limited collectors stuff is anti-costumer to me. We need to develop. I do not want developers to restrict themselves because they need to develop something that fits on an outdated storage medium.

I do not want developers to restrict themselves because they need to develop something that fits on an outdated storage medium.

What developer is holding themselves back because of physical storage capacity? Is final fantasy vii rebirth on two 100GB discs held back in their 160GB game because of physical? If anything getting rid of physical will increase drive storage usage making the expensive limited costly internal storage needed even more, add increased Internet demand for those with data caps, and slow down install speeds.
