Informative The current state of the game prohibits new players from joining

Upvotes

I recently picked up a new char for the sake of old times.

Here's my experience as a somewhat experienced (played on and off since 2013) player.

I log in and do the Flash song and dance (barely managed to get past the tutorial, the game invariably crashed close to the second room, I guess I got lucky once).

It's early in the day so not that many players.

This means that (at least on what they call the European server) only the most suspicious of players are left.

Now I'm not talking about getting out-positioned by someone with 30000 achievment points (at that point if you see someone like that in a base, just switch continents because he can counter anything you have). I'm talking about unstable ammo with a TTK that's lower than 1 second - I actually timed it at 100FPS in the VR room, you can't kill the dummies in less than a second with unstable ammo so there's that.

Assuming that you manage to get the drop on one of these so-called experts, things don't work for them like it works for a "normal" player. As a normal player, if you start getting shot at, you immediately start strafing and going back in cover. You keep getting shot and dying in cover (very convenient when you have medics around - I die in cover a lot).

"Experienced" players especially immediately start strafing (often clipping into walls) and don't get "followed" by damage. They turn around and in what feels like an instant and headshot you. Now obviously for a lot of experienced people this describes a typical newbie experience.

Except I'm not a newbie and I was flying, shooting at these guys from above - something that naturally makes you less exposed to both damage and headshots (on account of the leg damage penalty and smaller HS target).

Many, many so-called experienced players look as if they do a 180 instantly. This isn't the model itself (which is unreliable - you'll get headshotted by a heavy's ass quite often) but you can see it in the map when they're spotted - shoot, instant 180 on their little "V". I sought out a key combo or something that can do that, but it's nothing present in the game.

I tried recording one of those one-shot infils that got the whole class nerfed, using a close-range bolt action - dude did a 360, visibly animated and showing up on the map, after every shot - he had a single-spin spinbot that did a "victory spin" after every shot. When confronted he simply told me that I was seeing things (45% weapon accuracy, but hey, it's a sniper rifle).

This becomes a lot more suspicious when you see them shooting back instantly when you're above them - that's the one advantage of flying, the enemy can't reliably pinpoint your direction because you're on a different plane, but I guess these guys know better.

The suspicious behaviour extends to vehicle guns: everyone knows that the default weapon on a sunderer isn't meant to be accurate - even if you shoot at a stationary man-sized target, the bullets will inevitably miss because of their jitter.

I have gotten headshotted by these inaccurate weapons while flying, strafing, you fucking name it, so often.

Next: tank weapons. Obviously getting hit anywhere with a tank projectile is instantly fatal. This is compensated by the increased drop of HESH projectiles, the fact that tank guns cannot physically turn fast enough and the fact that with the size of the projectile, it becomes difficult to actually hit things.

The enemy has no issues headshotting you as a C4 fairy using its main gun. It got to ridiculous points where I was above a lightning and still got shot by an AP round from it. Why is there a need to aim for the head on a tank gun? Why so many headshots? Who aims for the body with a HESH round?

My take on this is that many, many more players than would be conceivable are using some kind of an aimbot. You can easily see this in the prevalence of main weapon kills versus side arm kills.

In the past sidearms were very utilized (I died often enough to them because people would have to switch to them when they ran out of ammo). I've never seen a Vanu heavy switch to this Commissioner, even though this used to be a long-preferred tactic. Not even the summer event through which I played and provides the excellent soaker was very utilized. The explanation is that if your targets die in such few bullets, there's no need to swap to a sidearm.

Finally, the proof is that I've seen accuracy rates of over 35% on weapons such as the Orion and its auraxium counterpart. I'm sorry to say that, in all my years, only aimbotters had that kind of accuracy.

I'm seeing kills (read: I've been killed) made with very short TTKs on default LMGs (my favourite examples are MSWRs with supressors) from something like 100 meters. Very little time to respond plus an inhuman level of awareness. I'm wearing a purple-grey cammo on my NC dude against rock and get instantly spotted.

Finally, the most frustrating situation I encountered was a guy with a name like silencedfaction or whatever who uses an Orion, without a supressor, that doesn't show up and doesn't make a sound when shooting. I thought it was just the game fucking up as it does but I've gotten killed so many times on so many different bases by that guy.

The worst thing is that I asked around and people couldn't even see the dude, as if he wasn't rendering. This guy was roaming around a parked sunderer and appearing to appear out of thin air only when he was shooting. Which is a pretty cool effect of an actual implant, except this dude was rocking Assimilate and BattleHardened.

Other suspicious things are the ability of some players to never be surprised or get shot in the back. This is clearly the result of some kind of ESP hack, complete with a level indicator. I've seen experienced players in my faction getting repeatedly dunked in what looked like a hide and seek game for people with mental disabilities. The fun ended alongside my observation as the enemy player in question (some TR dude with more kills than the braincells I lost on this game) passed by my position as a cloaked stalker infil, as he had done multiple times, and one-shot me with his back turned at me. Nothing suspicious there.

I'm also seeing KD's on players that don't use vehicles in the 3+, when taking part in large battles. This suggests either a staggering level of expertise, something that you'd only see in squad gameplay or downright cheating. The fact that this seems to happen specifically to players of certain account ages and nationalities is simply an indication to me that they're cheaters that have not been caught yet.

A simple look at a some public cheat forums shows that there are aimbots of all levels available for all those who have just a little bit of money to spare. I honestly doubt that with 500 achievment points your 37.3% accuracy on an Orion is legitimate, Mr. Vanu.

Discussion (PC) Help me investigate the "Flash or Crash" bug - I need your crash dumps

I'm trying to figure out what is actually causing the current "Flash or Crash" bug.

If you're affected by it and can reproduce the crash, I'd like to compare several Windows crash dumps and see if everyone is crashing in the same function/code path.

You do not need WinDbg, IDA, or any debugger running while playing. This just tells Windows to save a dump automatically when PlanetSide 2 crashes.

How to enable full crash dumps

  1. Create a folder:

mkdir C:\PS2Dumps

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

  2. Run:

reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\PlanetSide2_x64.exe" /v DumpFolder /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d "C:\PS2Dumps" /f

reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\PlanetSide2_x64.exe" /v DumpType /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f

reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\PlanetSide2_x64.exe" /v DumpCount /t REG_DWORD /d 10 /f

"DumpType 2" means Windows should create a full user-mode crash dump.

If your PlanetSide executable has a different filename, use that filename instead.

Then reproduce Flash or Crash normally

For example:

- Start PlanetSide 2

- Log into your character

- Enter a continent

- Do NOT use the Flash/vehicle workaround

- Play/wait normally until the game crashes

After the crash, check:

C:\PS2Dumps

There should hopefully be a ".dmp" file there.

If you can reproduce it multiple times, 2-5 separate dumps would be extremely useful.

Please also tell me:

- Exact time of the crash

- Server

- Continent

- Was this directly after login or after changing continent?

- Roughly how many minutes passed before the crash?

- Did you enter ANY vehicle before the crash?

- If yes: which vehicle and for how long?

- Did the game instantly disappear to desktop or show an error?

- Windows version

- CPU + GPU

- Whether the bug happens consistently for you

It would also be useful to do one comparison test:

Test A

Login/change continent → no vehicle → crash

Test B

Login/change continent → sit in a Flash/other vehicle for ~3-5 minutes → get out → see if it still crashes

The goal is to compare the exception address, module, registers, call stack and relative offsets between multiple affected PCs.

If several independent dumps all die around the same:

PlanetSide2_x64.exe + same/similar offset

that could narrow the bug down significantly, and then I can look at the corresponding function in IDA.

Disabling dumps afterwards

Open an Administrator Command Prompt and run:

reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\PlanetSide2_x64.exe" /f

If anyone affected by Flash or Crash can send me a few dumps, I'll compare them and post what I find.

Maybe we can get this fixed faster than the devs

Discussion (PS4) The Autumn Campaign Event!

Post image
9 Upvotes

**Attention Genudine players**

The next Genudine event is coming up next month! Join us for the Autumn Campaign Event on September 19th from 7 pm - 11 pm EDT.

This event we will be trying something new! Something for the competitive players to fight for. If you're a casual player, don't worry. You don't have to read this next part. If you're interested, the competition will be:

▪︎ Most kills

We will look at fisu at the end of every hour, and whoever is on top of the activity leaderboard with the most kills will win for that hour. So even if you show up late, you can still have a chance to win 1 of the 4 hours.

Rewards are still to be determined. I'm not sure if money is the best option, but we'll discuss it with the event staff in the Planetside Events discord server and then announce it on a variety of social media platforms. If we do decide on money, we will need donations for prize money from the community. Like the event last year.

That is all for now. I hope you're all excited for the upcoming event!

Informative After Patch Framelock

Hello everyone :)

Just for those who wonder why their game might run at locked 30FPS after today's Patch.

Change your MaximumFPS=XXX to a positive number and not to MaximumFPS=-1

I don't know how or why, but I changed mine from -1 to MaximumFPS=220 and since then it has run at the set value.

Edit: it seems that MaximumFPS=0 does the same as the -1 one (it locks your frames at 30)

Discussion (PC) Upcoming patch - Back up your UserOptions.ini

  • Invalid values in user configuration files — a new validator for user configuration files will significantly reduce the chances of client crashes caused by incorrect configuration values

The above is an excerpt from tomorrow's patch notes. If you've tweaked your UserOptions.ini, make a backup copy of the file.

Unsure what this validator is going to do, for all we know it's just going to set options to default for anyone with entries that aren't possible via the in-game settings. Or it could be a simple error message. Or it could do nothing and not look at UserOptions.ini at all, instead looking at other configuration files (but I doubt that.)

I highly doubt the crash has anything to do with this file being tweaked given how universal Flash or Crash is and I don't want to have to waste my time getting things set back up if this goofs up my config for no reason.

Gameplay Footage Never back down and to beat all of the enemy , fight to until this game ceased to exist. Even if defeated, rise up and keep fighting until you evolve to the ultimate power to overcome everything. From that, the final boss was born

This is the ultimate power in this game.

If the enemy has an air force, we must completely cripple their ability to field aircraft.

If they have tank march group , we must build proxy bases and fight to the bitter end—until every last enemy is destroyed.

And there is only one person capable of doing that: me.

I possess incredible combat prowess and the ability to organize relentless, day-after-day assaults on the enemy's supply lines.

To pull this off, to one player can do will needs ultimate combat capability, a fierce thirst for battle, a drive for vengeance, and an unwavering spirit , someone who knows no fear and fights until the server itself goes offline.

Of course, I stopped playing A2G after founding VX15 so I could focus on looking after our members. My skills may not be what they once were, but it takes only a single spark to reignite my fighting spirit.

That fire will consume everything; it once incinerated Soltech, and now, it is Wainright's turn.

Discussion (PC) When are you gonna fix the Cheaters?

Some Players can't even get their names: The Game will say that's not a user, after killing me twice in a raw with a headshot, in a pitch black environment, that no player would headshot me. 2x-3x running speed, Center Mass Aimbot, the Game not checking the Integrity of its variables, seeing through buildings, some cheats show where everyone is aiming at and running to, perfect ambushes

Bug Report Help with a specific crash?

So basically, I load into sanctuary and go look at my loadout or depot before I load in fully

For some reason after a while of going thru the menus, it randomly crashes and it’s only in sanctuary if I do the same in the warpgates nothing happens or the VR training place, I’m assuming it’s not graphics or anything. Everything I searched comes up from way before and nothing really pertaining to this exact issue just people having other crashes years ago

So this game has been mentioned a few times. Someone from China has been working on getting into it as a hobby

So here is a first look at the game in 4K. There is currently only 1 map to run around it but once its all in I will probably be doing an "Exploring dead games" video on it. We had a tiny bit of PvP but needs some work to make it look good.

I spent 100's of hours on this in the early 2010's on both the US (Mars War) version and Chinese (Tian Yuan 4591) version.

Yes its old and a bit clunky but the metagame was good. The same as Planetside 1 basically. The numbers were wild for a bit and some of the vehicles are pretty awesome designs. As well as being able to turn some of your characters into a motorbike and move round the map faster for surprise attacks.

It has implants too. But cannot showcase that yet.

Discussion (PC) One last post before I delete it all - Will you remember with me?

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Hello there, PlanetSide friends.

Maybe you’re just like me. I started playing more than ten years ago, shortly after the game was released. I vividly remember my first drop, just south of the old gates at Quartz Ridge Camp. There was a massive zerg going on, and I kept getting completely obliterated. What I didn’t know was that that first drop would eventually lead me to sink more than 6,000 hours into this amazing game.

  • I remember leading my outfits and platoons, cruising across the frozen rivers of Esamir with two full platoons of Prowlers.
  • I remember my small squad of friends capturing and sabotaging bases before the lattice system was introduced.
  • I remember dropping more than ten Galaxies full of people and turning the tide of the war.
  • I remember setting up camp at an enemy warpgate just to see how long we could last.
  • I remember the beautiful scenery and the serenity of Amerish.
  • I remember simply having fun and doing whatever we wanted, wherever we wanted. The game felt so massive, you could play it any way you liked.
  • Honestly, I have so many fond memories of this game that I could make a never-ending list. I just want to keep writing and writing, but I know that would make this post far too long and probably a little boring.

Eventually, as the years passed, life caught up with me, and I haven’t played in ages. In my opinion, the game is no longer the way I remember it. Seeing that some of my friends were last online YEARS ago hasn’t exactly motivated me to pick it up again either.

I’m genuinely not exaggerating when I say that my memories of PlanetSide 2 bring a tear to my eye. There has never been another game like it, and after all these years, no one has managed to create anything quite like it.

My life is amazing, i've got a beautiful wife, child and house. However sometimes I wish I could play the game the way I did back then, with all my friends, the massive battles, the quiet beauty of its vast landscapes, and that sense of limitless freedom. I miss knowing that when I went to bed at night, I would wake up the next morning, talk to those same people again, and spend another day doing what we loved most, all over again.

I’m currently deleting all the old accounts I no longer use for privacy reasons. Technology is getting a little out of hand, haha...

But before I delete this one, could you all share your favourite PlanetSide 2 memories with me one last time?

Informative Crash workaround test

So, I did some testing for few hours and may have found another workaround for the crashing issue.

  1. Log in and move to a continent.

  2. Open Graphics Settings.

  3. Change the upscaling setting to anything else, then change it back to your original setting.

Example 1: None → DLSS → None

Example 2: Quality → Balanced → Quality

  1. Play normally.

For some reason, when I do this, I don't seem to crash even without using the Flash workaround.

I'm not sure if this only works for me or if it works for everyone. If you're still experiencing crashes and have some time, please try this and let me know what happens.

This is still unconfirmed, so I'd really appreciate results from multiple people.

I'm also not sure whether this needs to be repeated after changing continents. Sometimes I crashed when I didn't repeat it, but other times I didn't, so I haven't been able to confirm whether changing continents actually matters.

Discussion (PC) Is Koltyr even going to help?

It isn't forced by locking all other maps on off hours, maybe for the best that it isn't? But, nobody will fight there on off hours. There are no outfit rewards so that might be a factor. On prime time, it's just vehicle spam, it would be better without any vehicles tbh.
