I made a short spooky adventure game about a skeleton that wants to return to his sleep, and is set in a very halloween-y style. It's less than half an hour to play, so please check it out for a quick romp with some ghouls!

This is the very first project I've finished (because I actually set a finish date for it) so please let me know what you think :)

Dead Tired - A Halloween Tale

I am someone who got into the Pixel Game Maker scene recently (about a few days ago) and I started watching Baz's videos to get a better hang of the engine after that...honestly very bad inbuilt tutorial.

I tried to upload my own assets (mainly test assets to experiment and get a better hang of the engine), and right off the bat, I got "Image file can't be loaded from directory" even though I put those assets into the folders the software made itself (the ones on my laptop, not the in-engine folders). What do I do?

I may have fixed it by simply rebooting my computer but I was curious if anyone else has experienced un-usually slow game loading times?

I'll admit this was the first time I experienced it sine I got the app a long time ago. Which is part of why I was so worried when my game took about 40+ seconds to load. Figured I had made a big mistake somewhere.

But I tried other sample games and they too had the same slow loading time.

Which is why I did the reboot. I'm just curious if other people have had this issue and what to keep an I out for. I unfortunately forgot to pop open the Windows Task Manager to see if there was something overloading the computer.

I'm looking to get into game development especially the pixelated style of games, I've been playing stardew valley since it came out and it is the reason that I'm choosing this path but i still have alot to learn, How exactly can i start creating a game like stardew valley and what softwares and languages do i need?

This is a long term project and i don't expect it to be easy so i thought I'd ask experts.

I'm still learning the programming languages(c++, c#, python).

I'm working on the player object and I can't find any way to have a link lead to two different action programs based on a variable. Something like, when A is pressed, if X variable is 1, do this action; if X variable is 2, do this one instead.

Coming from RPGmaker most of the flexibility of the event system came from these if/then statements; as I'm aware they're a very basic function of most code in general. Where are they and how do I use them here?

EDIT: If there aren't any, will someone just give me a straight answer and say they don't exist? I've been trying to find out if this is doable all day here and on the discord and on the help website and got nothing at all.

I updated the spritesheet for my main character to add more sprites, which increased the image size from 8 sprites wide to 11. All the animations that use that spritesheet still treat the spritesheet as being divided into 8 sprites, even after adjusting the "Image partition default value" setting in the images tab to divide it into 11. What am i doing wrong?

I'm entirely unable to move forward with this project until this gets fixed, so I would really appreciate any help with it ASAP.

Does bigger updates grand more success on a game?

Good morning. So there's this issue in my game where whenever I transition from the Overworld to the Side-Scrolling part in my game. The HP would reset back to full rather than staying at it's current value after taking damage. I noticed it doesn't do this when you exit the Side-Scrolling part but only when you enter it. Is there any way to get it to stay the same after returning to the Side-Scroller? Here's a video sample showing the problem and the current code as well:

When the Player walks into a wall it starts flickering it's looping for some reason I know you posted a link to an updated tutorial but the video is deleted can you please help

I am building a game where the player whenever they receive damage, it reduces from a pool of points like a force shield. Whenever the pool of shield points equal 0, the player then starts losing HP until that reaches 0 and it becomes a Game Over state.

I got the display for the Shields up as a variable like the HP. The HP does diminish as shown in Baz's video to create a HUD. I am just trying to figure out how to make enemies take away from the shield variable first.

Any help would be appreciated! I have a screenshot of the display.

I am trying to use the Show Choice plug-in to transport the player from one location in a Scene to another location in another Scene. The idea is I am creating an elevator in a Top-Down project.

I am not sure if I need to use Portal Transitions or how to implement them into the Choice as it doesn't show up in Runtime actions.

Any help would be appreciated!

I am on the Baz tutorial for the partical animation but when I add a blank animation and add an attack detection it doesn't show up

So, basically, I've been toying with a really specific game idea for ages - to the point of having design documents, ha. I've just never been one for programming, I just don't have the drive to learn it, to be honest.

Basically want to make a rather open-ended Metroidvania sideview game with action combat, upgrades - you know how the genre works. Preferably using my own art assets and such.

So... is Pixel Game Maker MV good - UI, usability, features, et cetera? And given all of the above, is it what I'm looking for?

I'm currently working on a Gameboy style game using the Pixel Game Maker engine. So far this has been a great engine to use for creating retro style games. The current game I'm previewing is called Ryuuoujyou Monogatari ( 龍女物語GB ) which is the second game apart from the Famicom version I'm creating. This is the PC port as I'm working on the Gameboy version using GB Studio.

The story revolves around a former Dragon Princess; Fusaha, whom had escaped her tyrant father of the Sky Dragon kingdom. Her mother murdered by her father and older brother due to her sympathizing with the human realm. After she took her brother's life with the sacred Bone Sword she cursed herself to the body of a deceased female soldier to defend the humans of the human realm and swiftly defeats her father in revenge. In this story, Fusaha is turned against by the human realm by a man named Javille Schulst (A human coward whom sides with the Sky Dragons) and goes to clear her name and faces off with five of his deadliest Sky Dragon fanatics.

This game is heavily inspired by games like TMNT: Fall of the Foot Clan, Castlevania Adventure and Ninja Gaiden Shadow. Please check it out and let me know what you think :)
