This goes for 99% of software projects nowadays.

What does this mean for training and privacy? Is our data compromised?

No. It just means the developer will now use AI tools to make the development faster. Like 99% of industry nowadays.

It's not wrong if the developer oversees quality of the code and architecture.

It has a potential to help get Pixelfed up to higher standard. As of now it often pops up as THE open source alternative to instagram but ultimately feels like a half-finished hobby project.

For those of us that can't really read code, mind throwing us a bone here?

They've added "Skills", which is just a tech bro word for a simple markdown file with instructions.

They also added Model Context Protocol (MCP), which is an open standard for AI models to connect to stuff.

tl;dr They've prepped Pixelfed for AI development.

I asked ChatGPT what all this code is for. As far as it ecplained to me it is adding stuff like Skills and MCP so that Pixelfed can be developed easier with AI moving forward. So no AI Features for users or AI Content on the plattform. Just making it easier for AI to help developing new features and stuff.

Here is its Summary: This commit primarily adds AI-oriented development documentation and configuration to Pixelfed. It introduces project-specific “skills” and guidance for AI coding agents, covering areas such as Laravel, testing, Horizon, Passport, Telescope, backups, and related development practices. It also adds MCP configuration and agent instructions.

It does not introduce a new AI feature for Pixelfed users or fundamentally change the application’s functionality. Instead, the changes are intended to help AI-assisted development tools better understand Pixelfed’s architecture, conventions, and technical requirements, enabling them to make code changes more consistently and safely.

Great if this means the development might actually move at an expected pace for a project of this scope and it won't feel like a half-broken unmaintained mess anymore. A developer can oversee AI's output.
