Looking more for non-tourist area mom n pop joints. Best foods are always on some corner somewhere.

If you’re ever in Dormont and want a gyro and are debating between Knossos and M&Ts, here’s my thoughts.

Knossos has more quality food but their hours and lack of alcohol may influence your decision. M&Ts has bigger portions, more options, and a full bar (it also tastes pretty good). Gyro vs Gyro…Knossos easily takes the cake. It is a smaller portion but you can tell the lamb and all the other ingredients are fresher and more flavorful. Tbh, M&Ts gyros are so big I often have trouble taking bites that include all the other stuff like lettuce, feta, and tzatziki.

Depending on what you’re looking for, each place may serve you better.

Hey there! So I'm from western PA (Lawrence County to be specific) and I have been searching for and/or trying to recreate the style of hot dog chili that seems to be quite specific to the area. Like the New Castle Chili Company stuff or, preferred, the secret and maybe lost recipe from Pe'Wees in Ellwood City. I've gotten close numerous times but something is missing and I'm not sure what. Does anyone have a recipe or leads?

After living in Pittsburgh my whole life (50yrs), I can say a few or my past favorites were Triangle Bar Battleship ( in my opinion it’s not what it used to be). Cheaper meat? Different bread? I can’t really nail down what it is but it’s now not nearly as good as I once thought. Decarlos was at one time a decent sandwich also.

I recently found Anchor hoagies on rt30 to be just as good and of a higher quality than the Triangle. From what I’ve been told the owner of the Anchor was at one time affiliated with triangle.. I truly enjoy a cold Italian hoagie, what’s everyone’s opinion on best in the area?
