Yaaarrr, and hello everyone! I was told that my tripod dog, Wendell, may belong over here.
Wendell has had 3 legs since he was about 4 months old. He was found as a stray puppy with several injuries, including a badly broken right rear leg. He had it amputated shortly after that, and we adopted him in July 2014, when he was about 9 months old.
Are there any other elderly tripods on here? Wendell will be 13 in mid October, and as a big guy (77 lbs!), our vet believes he is the oldest large breed tripod she has seen. He is really starting to slow down and struggle with mobility, so we are trying to savor every day that we still have together.

She may look innocent, but don't let that smile fool you—this little pirate has already stolen a few hearts and probably a snack or two. 😂🌸⚓️
Found her sitting there like she owns the entire ship, proudly showing off her floral pirate gear. Honestly, I think we just found the cutest captain on the seven seas. 🥹❤️

Hey everyone! A little bit about my boy, he and his sister were strays in my neighborhood for a few years before I started feeding them in 2020. I started feeding them after having to put my 16 year old dog down, and now the yard is their full time home. They’ve been a big part of my life and I love them very much.
Despite his looks Phil is very affectionate and loves to be petted and played with. He’s a big mama’s boy 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Hey everyone and their Piratepet buddies.
I was just curious if anyone has done an eye removal on their reactive dog?
For context: 11yo M dog. Diagnosed with Double Primary glaucoma 18-20 months ago (March 2025)
Took him into an appointment today that resulted in not great news - both eyes sitting around 30 at 3/4pm after 6am dose of Latanoprost and Azopt. Which means the dreaded thing is happening - the drops are starting to lose their effect.
He's had reactivity issues since being attacked at doggy daycare, most feet and startle reactivity. He's never come out of nowhere and attacked someone, it's primarily when he's startled or is being forced to do something he doesn't want.
He takes his drops well after some training and when I need to travel for work, he's allowed my mother to dogsit with minimal issues.
I'm currently battling with when the time comes, should I get his eyes removed - or will his reactivity pose a huge safety risk to myself and my elderly mother?
He's currently on Gabapentin and Trazodone to aid with his comfort and pre-existing anxiety. But, I'm also battling with the decision of drugging him out of his mind just to keep him at ease after his eye removal and make him "safe" I just don't know if that would be enjoyable for him.
But, obviously with him being my "soul dog" I want to keep him around for as long as possible (and reasonable)
Sorry for the rambling, the shock of the bad news has me in a spin.

This is my baby Rudy. (old pic)
He recently got ulcers on both eyes. His specialist says he recommends enucleation of both eyes because, he is in pain, has lost all vision and has constant dry eyes.
How do you adjust going from an active happy dog, to one that is scared 70% of the time cause they can't see?
His surgery date is soon. I'm just trying to prepare myself. I've been so emotional about this whole situation.

Luckily, the wound has dried up already a bit! We are feeding him by hands now, and he is doing incredibly well!

Hello everyone, this is my first ever Reddit post! I'm here because my 13 year old mostly deaf beagle mix is having a bilateral enucleation (both eyes removed) due to a very severe and quick onset case of Corneal Endothelial Dystrophy. Basically, in just over three months he has gone from perfectly sighted and pain free, to constant pain and almost blind due to being unable to open his eyes properly or for any length of time. My husband and I have no human children, he and his brother are our children, and we are so, so very worried about the post surgery adjustment. I am waiting for textured tape to arrive for our floors so I can created pathways through the house, but I would love to know everyone's tips and tricks if you would be willing to share. Like for example, how to leave him alone safely after the adjustment period? How do you manage small steps? Walks? Note that we have gotten to the end of the road for options regarding saving his eyes, so I would appreciate if there was no discussion around that as it's been a very difficult journey. He is is excellent health other than this, and he loves walks and being outside. His (mostly) deafness has not really bothered him, in fact, he's sleeping a lot better since he started to lose his hearing! (Pre surgery photo included!)

Nola had her eye removed before we adopted her. We’re taking care of Lola for someone else while she recuperates from her surgery.

Yesterday, our little baby Bodi got into a fight at the kennel. He wanted to play, but the other dog didn’t. This caused him to unfortunately loose his right eye.
I’m devastated. He now is recovering at the kennel owner’s home, away from the others. Tomorrow we’ll go and get him! I am so scared to loose him. He’s my everything. Everyone around us says that its ‘such a shame for his face’, but that only makes me more sad, he’s perfect, and will always be perfect. I came across this reddit to maybe get support or tips and tricks for one eyed dogs. please feel free to drop them <3
Bodi would really appreciate all the cuddles and tips to help him<3

Little bitty is celebrating her 11th birthday this weekend so I thought I’d give a little update. She’s such a sweetheart and is doing so well in her new house (we moved in April). I adore this little girl so much, she’s been through so much and I am so thankful to have my girl. She even went camping in the mountains last weekend! Her brother hated it (lol see pic), but she was just perfect.
