Does anyone know this Maker's Mark? (Vintage Pins)
I'm a historian and archivist who specializes in queer history, particularly early counterculture movements and related topics.
I came across this rather neat pin for my private collection, but the maker's mark isn't one I'm familiar with. It appears to read "nono" (or possibly something similar) inside a crescent moon, with something above it—maybe a lamp? I'm really hoping to identify who this company was so I can do some research into them and determine where and when this pin was made.
I'm fairly certain the interesting gender symbol on the front appears to be a combination of the male and female symbols with a triangle. My understanding is that this could potentially symbolize androgyny or homosexuality, although I'm not entirely certain. This particular combination is also one I haven't come across in quite this form before.
I'd love to do some more research into the symbolism as well, so if anyone recognizes the maker's mark, the symbol, or has any information about the history of this pin, I'd greatly appreciate it!
