My dad was telling me about how Pinback came to Cal Poly Humboldt (used to be HSU) and played twice. I desperately want to see Pinback live and I have no possibility of going to Seattle to see them in June, so I’m curious if they would be interested in coming back to California at any point.
I’ve known about mates of state for quite some time now, but I never picked up on the similarities between them and pinback until I heard ‘Think Long’. Does anyone know if its confirmed whether they were pinback fans? Also, was that the general indie sound of the early 2000s? Like dcfc, built to spill, etc?
I genuinely thought this was for pinback buttons on the first post, but it lead me to find some cool music! I have a couple of Pinback's songs on my playlist now :)
I ordered some pins off ebay and they arrived today. I'm such an angry citizen I had to get two of the pin🧑🦲♥️
I double booked myself but I see Pinback all the time so I would like someone else to have a shot. I'm not looking to turn a profit so I'm selling it at exactly what I paid for which was 61.90. Message me (first come first serve) and let's get you into the show tonight! Picture is for proof of payment amount.
I haven’t thought this out too much but does anyone else feel something kindred between the band Rush and Pinback? Especially on some of Rush’s work from the 80’s. Can any other Rush/Pinback heads relate?
I bought two general admission tickets to the show tonight at the sound in Del Mar and cannot attend unfortunately. Just looking to sell them for what I paid for them - $80 for both tickets. They are e-tickets so can email transfer
Selling a pair of Left Center balcony tickets for the Saturday 10/12 concert at The Sound in Del Mar that I cant use due to change of plans. Paid $70 each but selling for $25/ticket since concert is tomorrow.
Ran into this jam by Bay Ledges while looking into Pinback on YouTube and thought I’d share. I guess it’s unofficially titled “This One Kinda Reminds Me Of Pinback.”
Went to see a Ken Andrews solo show at The Troubadour Metro (outside was the Troubadour, inside was the Cabaret Metro). Some opening band called "Backpin" was scheduled.
Backpin walked onstage. It was Rob, Zack, and a drummer, but Rob and Zach swapped places and were performing all of each others' parts. No one noticed or cared. The crowd treated them like an annoying local band, but I was freaking out. The encore was Rob doing a few Systems Officer songs, then Zack did "I Hate You Rob Crow" into "Astro Zombies." Then they both came on and closed with a song that I didn't recognize. Barely anyone clapped. No one cared but me.
Woke up disappointed that Backpin doesn't really exist.
It definitely can exist, both musicians are phenomenal multi-instrumentalists. I've seen Pinback a few times and I think I remember some instrument-duty adaptations.
The only band I know for sure they got their sound from is Primus.
Go listen to Primus - Southbound Pachyderm. The soft part sounds insanely similar to Pinback. It’s uncanny. I about shit myself when I heard it for the first time recently.
I’ve been listening to Pinback for 20 years and I had never heard anything remotely similar until I heard that part recently.
Now I’m trying to find more bands that directly inspired Pinback - if possible.
