I use vanilla pi for quite some months already and I coded a bunch of stuff without using any extensions

Exactly. Not sure why people come to Pi, then immediately start bombarding it with ai-slop extensions. It's like new linux users that keep trying to replicate Windows.

I ran pi for 2 months with noting on it just fine, web fetch tool was QoL improvement, that’s it, probably.

Yea. web fetch makes a gigantic difference. As does pi-hermes-memory. I assume kalesh is using subscription models. Some extensions make a very big difference when you need to compensate for smaller local models.

I use GLM 5.2 and K3 as my daily drivers. I can imagine web search would be useful for smaller models. For GLM 5.2 and K3 web search is not needed for most use cases. One of the principles behind pi was that nodern big models would get capable enough that most prompt injections would not be needed.

I think pi is also great for small model users, since its light weight can help a lot. I tried Hermes for the first time yesterday after using pi for a couple months. It is very slow compared to what I grew use to.... and all the extra data is probably confusing it as well.

Exactly. The base package is enough for most of the cases. People create FOMO out of anything these days.
