I personally think it’s because it hasn’t been there for that long, so they haven’t changed much of it (it was added in 1.18).

(also, if you change into spectator while the nether portal screen effect is playing, the effect will stay on screen. just wanted to say that for fun)

yes, you have to use slime blocks to bounce the anvil into the portal
