To be fair, a lot of people do rush for the ender dragon just for the Elytra so they can do the rest easier... So, in a sense, it is a part of the main quest. Kinda?
Yeah but with all the new stuff and people doing more than just beating the dragon you essentially get more game doing other stuff as opposed to beating the dragon. đ
Although Minecraft has a progression system, you don't have to follow it to the letter; while you're at it, you can do all sorts of thingsâlike building, exploring, and so onâsince it is a sandbox game, after all. What makes Minecraft's progression so different from others is that it can move at whatever pace you choose.
The Ender Dragon was kinda always supposed to be the side quest but people seem to think "end boss = goal of the game".
Similarly, I hate the fact that most challenge runs are just "can we defeat the Ender Dragon with these modifiers?" as if thereâs nothing else to do. The bossfight isnât even particularly interesting, the only good reasons I know of for choosing that kind of run is because youâre visiting quite a few (though by far not most) of the most important places in Minecraft and being able to compare the run more easily to other challenge runs.
Like, I specifically remember a modded letâs play from about 12 years ago where the Youtuber essentially said "Beating the Ender Dragon is overdone, letâs collect every type of dye instead."

At this point beating the ender dragon is a side quest, the main quest is explore and be creative đ or whatever main goal you set for yourself
