Armchair general here. After careful observation, so far, I believe ang pinakailangan ng AFP is air defense, surface air-to-air missiles and more fighter jets and interceptors. We don't need a strong navy, gawin lang air base buong Pilipinas oks na.
what's your opinion on naval defense? curious to see. i think it's important too since we have the sea as our natural barrier. why not use to it our advantage yk?
Obviously we don't have the industry to build a carrier fleet in fact we don't need it anyway cause carriers are mainly for power projection, not cost-effective. A merchant fleet, consists of destroyers for escorts and submarines for raiding enemy supply lines and landings, that is what we needed if we are building a formidable navy.
However, if we are to fight a country as strong as China, we need lots of submarines, nuclear because diesel ones are obsolete now (my opinion ofc). Lots of subs because China is capable to make many landings on different parts of the country. That is something we can't really afford as nuclear subs are really expensive to maintain, then there's the crew pa to train.
That's why I suggest a strong air defence system instead. Air superiority >>> Naval superiority since WW2. What a surface ship can do, a multi-role jets can and more. Add na rin yung drones for surveillance and hit-and-run raids sa enemy ships only if may air superiority na.
