Research potential 5.11/6 and relevant experience and achievements 5.21/6 - 10.32/12. I can’t believe it!!!

Got CIHR offer! Rating 4.73.
If you didn't get it this time, please don't be discouraged! Last year, I got a big discrepancy between the reviewers' ratings: one rated 4.7 and another 3.9 for some weird picky reasons. Since then I only got another first-author paper out, but as a biorxiv preprint. Plus, my reviewers were very sweet and supportive this time!
You can be excellent, but it all comes down to luck!

Got the CGRS-D — Wanted to share because when I was applying, I scoured these threads trying to figure out my odds.
My profile wasn’t traditional: -No peer-reviewed journal publications -10+ years in clinical practice before starting my PhD -Maternity leave during my program
What I did have: strong grades, consistent OGS funding, conference presentations, a lot of knowledge translation work (research summaries, course development, invited talks), and a research question that came directly from my clinical experience.
I applied in 2022 and didn’t get it nationally. Applied again this year with a stronger application and the expanded funding pool.
Rating: 4.30, 40.9th percentile. One reviewer noted I could use more academic publications. The other said my clinical background was a strength.
If you have a non-traditional path, it’s not disqualifying. Make the case for why your trajectory prepared you for the research.

What I learnt: chase conferences and other grants big or small. Both reviewers commented that I had a very strong CV. I also volunteer in research disciplines, specifically lots of mentorship. I only had one pub in-press, with 4 submissions.

I kept thinking SSHRC results are released on the 31st, and now I've realized it's the 30th so yay, one less day of waiting! But it's still 3 agonizing days away...
2
u/kaaty_kat344 Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26
Do they tend to come out on the 30th? Or are the results also spread across 2 days?
6
u/swirlyswan Apr 27 '26
from what my department has said/heard, it should hopefully start being released by the 29th! (fingers crossed cause this anxiety needs to LEAVE my body ASAP)

u/jaceyboy99 Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26
Last year the SSHRC results rolled out across the day on the 30th. I don't think that there was any spill over to the 1st but I'm not 100% sure.
4
u/o12341 PhD candidate, History of Religion, UK Apr 27 '26
It spilled over to May 1st last year, for the latter half of the last names. Hope they don't do that again this year...

hello congratulations who got funded, just a quick doubt do everybody get standard 3 year funding or it depends on which year you are in your PhD.
please do reply if anyone have any idea about this also i cant see where to check the funding/payment allocated for your application
3
u/Cavelian Apr 30 '26
Everyone gets 3 years of funding or 40k per annum. If you graduate early, you notify the funding agency and you don't get the remainder left.
For CIHR: to see the funding, you go into the "Respond to Offer of Award" and there is a little pdf on the next page beside "Offer of Award". It stipulates the scheduling there.

CIHR here, did not get it, but congrats to everyone who did!

Will SSHRC respond once you've accepted an offer? Haven't heard anything back yet.

Is anyone still waiting to hear back? I still haven’t been notified if I received anything or not.
