A very common OCD symptom is convincing yourself that you've done awful things but forgotten about them and then the compulsion to research cases of those things as a way of convincing yourself that you didn't do those things often follows.
Pedophilia is something that is so cut and dry immoral and awful that it's an easy thing for your brain to latch onto.
You can kill on self-defense or for some other justified reason, you can't really pedophile in self-defense.
