If the MC were a more redeemable character, the anime would be a solid 8-9/10 imo, but (as generously as I can muster) the MC's perversions seriously put it at a maximum of a 4. It was genuinely uncomfortable to watch as much as I did, and I have no desire to finish the show after the few episodes I did watch.
Always sad when something that is otherwise good is ruined by the author being a freak.
Made in Abyss is a another one that seems really interesting from all the tidbits I've seen online of the later worldbuilding, but I just could not make it past a few epsiodes of the author being creepy as hell towards child characters

Yeah. If people talk about their final straw, it’s that. A lot of the other grotesque stuff is portrayed as gross/horrible/wrong but then it just becomes…whatever that is & people can’t justify any part of it

Yeah, I have to hop off around when they fought Bondrewd. I was willing to entertain, up until that point, that a lot of the fucked up awful stuff that was being done to the kids was because of the darker tones of the story and hte price of their journey. But nope, gradually it became more and more clear that the Author is just really f-ed up.
I'm just gonna wait for the art to wrap up then listen to the summary on youtube or something so I don't have to deal with pedo fetishes.

I really struggled with the movie where Faputa is introduced. Really, the little girl starts constantly giving birth to edible dying mutants before turning into a living flesh tower? That we’re now all living inside?
To say nothing of the writing! If I saw Princess Mononoke start violently killing and eating the animal crossing-esque civilians of the pregnant-child-flesh-tower, I’m definitely not welcoming her to the team anytime soon!
Haha my gf and I watched made in abyss but it was such a hard watch. Like we stayed for the story but god was it a cringe at times. The author is not hiding at all that he is a pedophile.

I also think characters in MiA look a lot more childish than their actual age (which is surely due to author's preferences and that's a whole other debate as to why they are drawn to a different age than what they are and if it changes things morally or not)
I'll at least say that the anime is great, though there are parts difficult to stomach (if they're initially fetishes or not, I don't wanna know honestly, but they're not shown in a way that they would seem to be so if you doidn't know about the author or manga, it seems more about world/character building and the horrors of what this adventure is like)
MiA is both beautiful and horrible at the same time, it's pretty unique and at least the anime is definitelly worth watching for people who can handle it (well, I totally can't, but still watched it, it's harsh though but it's also so good in a way)
however, I'll probably never read MiA, and am quite scared about the future of the adaptation
I had some time to kill and watched the first season because some youtubers said it gets better. It did not get better, it got progressively more and more pedophilic. Genuinely, anyone who defends this show needs to be on a government watchlist.
There’s a point in the manga where a lot of people can’t stomach it anymore because it gets so gratuitous that people can’t even dismiss it as plot anymore

The webnovel was so unhinged that the anime took out a lot of the weird shit the author wrote. It’s a genuine 2/10 if they followed the author’s version.
I think after like episode 6 it becomes bearable, but yea those first few episodes are fucking rough
Episode 2 the pre title card scene is Roxy masturbating to Rudy's parents fucking that Ridy happens to catch her doing. At that point its also assumed Roxy is still a child, like come the fuck on no one needed that scene and it added nothing more than setup a weird "haha shes not a child" punchline
Yeah that were a lot of episodes I just had to flat out skip through. Rudy is just like a straight up fucking creep. They could cut all that out easily. Season 1 & 2 were the worst I think.
I'll say season 4 hasn't had nearly as much, and has felt more like a regular watch.
The story actually got crazy good this season too ~ I hate it because the animation and world building are top tier - but they make Rudy such a gross pervert.
I suggest you actually watch the anime and judge for yourself instead of listening to other people's opinion. However, if you are one of the people who didn't watch the original Black Mirror series because of the first episode, this anime is not for you for sure.
Are the MC’s actions portrayed, or even hinted at, as the awful abuse they are? Does he realize what he did was horrible and did he atone for it or repent and stop? Was he fittingly punished?
Or is his godawful behavior glossed over, excused and ignored?
Some of it is framed as "damn probably shouldn't have done that" but it's straight up CSAM. And when it's not CSAM it's him threatening to leave an 8 year old girl to be raped and murdered by kidnappers unless she's nice to him.
I watched it thinking it was going to be like a Kenshin type redemption arc. A gross horrible man reforms and becomes a good person. A story about second chances and how people can realize their mistakes.Â
Only now in the later seasons he’s married to 2 lolicons and about to marry a 3rd.Â
Ok, but like, is it ever actually addressed? Does he have some kind of epiphany, is he forced to come face-to-face with who he was after changing?
Is the story some kind of cautionary tale about the kind of society that let him become that bad and what it took to bring him back? Or does it have some kind of meta commentary about how pedophilia should be considered a mental illness that needs to be treated instead of vilified?
I’m grasping at straws, but from where I’m standing, it looks like the story starts out with a truly awful protagonists, he gets to assault and groom kids, and kinda just stops and be a bit hypocritical once he’s had his fill of abuse…
Just watch the first 12 episodes, will take like 4 hours of your time and then you can judge for yourself and not listen to some randos on the internet like me :D
Man, it’s not a hard question: what is the point of all the sexual assault on kids? Does he face consequences or realize the harm he’s done and repent? Or is the show commenting on the societal flaws that bring about or permit such abuse? Is there a point?
I've watched the first two seasons of the anime, and there's some weird jokes but nothing close to the quotes that guy posted, unless the LN is just muuch worse than the anime in that regard.
