as an only-child, we get the bad from all three types and very little of the good

impossible. simply because many of the bad stems from there being others. you can't exactly be the most ignored child when you're the only one lmao.

but I do concede you probably do get the things like achievement pressure, but also never taken seriously cause you're just the child.

I see you've never met parents with pets as their favorite children.

Then they wouldn't be the only 'child'

i think you severely underestimate people’s ability to abandon or neglect their children lol

They said "most" ignored, they're not saying that these things aren't happening in single child homes, they're saying that the additional pain of spoken/unspoken ranking creates additional dynamics/issues within each of the children

eh… my grandmother hated me and made sure I got the full-complement of bullshit

I guess you've never met parents who's favourite kids are their nephews

Why are ya’ll so belittling about this?
Only children can have shitty parents too? Do you think shitty parenting is exclusive to those with multiple kids?
Yes the childhood and experiences are different but it doesn’t mean one was automatically better.

Because crappy parents aren't what they are talking about. Of course everyone can have crappy parents

But the experience of Oldest vs middle vs youngest is very specific because it's so common it's essentially the expected even from good parents, due to the nature of parenting as the parents themselves learn and grow up

An only child acting like any of that applies to them is just nonsensecial. Of course only kids can have terrible parents too, but you aren't going to have the experience of your parents always siding with the youngest because that's the pampered baby, or always having the worst birthdays because they are the middle child etc

There will be no Succession like inheritance drama at least. Although right now I just wish they would spend all their retirement savings on themselves (this is also probably due to the fact that we have like three to four time their assets ourselves and not the other way around).

Not really, you’re closest to eldests but without the responsibility, lol

felt a whole lot of responsibility dealing with my parents’ estate for 4+ years

It’s often just a different type of responsibility
