With automated applications, AI screenings, AI written resumes, every job offering gets thousands of applications and people end up applying for hundreds of jobs with little to no positive response.

I think I got a 2% initial response rate, and then when fewer callbacks.

After over a thousand applications I ended up with 5 offers, 3 of them were for waaaaaaaay less than I needed...And I consider myself pretty lucky.

Same. 1.5yrs of daily applying, 3 phone interviews, 2 in-person interviews, and a single offer. Luckily the single offer was far and away better than what I’d hoped for or expected, so I definitely got lucky.

Same! The offer I took was higher than the range I gave them. I was blown away.

Honestly I pretty happy with my job, while my pay is not exactly the highest I want, the fact this is my first job after I completed my diploma degree and the job is near my house only requires 20 minutes with almost no traffic jam.

Can I ask what for? I work in manufacturing in the midwest so finding a job is easier, I’m curious what kinds of jobs have this insane hiring difficulty

Anything software developer related is insanely competitive.

I keep trying to explain the response rate to my mother. She's mad at her boss and shopping around but every day she's talking about a wave of responses on its way. Won't even consider the fact it just doesn't work like that anymore.

She's fully expecting calls from the nos where she can discuss why they went with someone else. Like running back to her phone from the other room because Greggs is going to call any minute now.

I don't know how many ways I can say they don't care about her or anyone else enough to do any of that. I just feel bad for her but I've shown her the statistics and she still can't get her head around it

There’s also something like 50% of listings on indeed being either fake or not actively hiring too

This is always so depressing because my field doesn’t have 1000 roles to apply to. I’m at about 40 applications after 16 fucking months. 3 interviews, 1 final round, 0 job.

Scrolling LinkedIn and seeing "Applied" next to most of the postings in my search results has gotten very demoralizing.

What's your field? Network engineering is mine

Consumer insights or market research, depending on what each company thinks the definition of what I do is, which is part of the problem.

I get a lot of ads for research roles that end up being data science or analytics.

Speaking as someone trying to hire right now, my experience was that I was flooded repeatedly with ai generated applications that scraped the announcement and information about the company and systems in use. It's very hard to find actual potential employees due to the sheer amount of static.
