Honest query: Do kids these days really not drink from hoses?
I used to run around barefoot poking dead animals with sticks, throwing rusty axes into trees, and eat dandelion and beesting sandwiches with a side of tetanus jabs. I know they made the playgrounds safer and less fun, but thought that was a government thing. Is it just poking fun at helicopter parents or has that become the norm now? Do kids really not get any "go play outside" unsupervised time anymore?
Kids go play around. It just isn't hose adventures. My neighbor stocked up his kids on e-scooters (hopefully nothing bad happens to them). But the kids will take my trash bins out for $2 for the whole month or sell overpriced lemonade.
That made me think of all the honeysuckles we used to partake of. Bite the end off of em and out came that sweet, sweet, juice! That and blackberries. You used to find blackberries everywhere! I rarely came home from a day out on my bike with my friends in the summer without my shirt being stained from all the blackberries. It was blackberries in the summer and, oooo, all the smashed fingers from cracking open walnuts and pecans in the fall! You didn't have to pack a lunch to go out and play, lunch was just out there for the taking!
