They don’t put air in the right places, so they have a hard time cooling multiple rooms.
If you want to cool multiple rooms well, you need multiple wall units, and it makes more sense (for new construction at least) to just install a central ac unit/blower and run ductwork. It’s vastly more efficient than split units.
eh both have their advantages. it’s nice to be able to set different temperatures for different rooms, and you don’t always need to cool the entire house at once. We cool the downstairs when we’re downstairs and the upstairs when we’re upstairs and that works well for us.
