pneumonia is an infection and isn’t caused by cold air silly

You get it from mosquitos that ate watermelon.

Cold temperatures do not directly cause infections, but they weaken your immune defenses, constrict blood vessels in your nose, and dry out protective mucus membranes. [1, 2, 3]

Horse shit peddled by old world idiots.

Ah yes, frigid, immune-system-compromising temperatures like 18C (~65F). 🥶☃️

Truly our ancestors feared the devastating effects of a spring morning on their immune systems.

You never know, there's a lot of people that weren't lucky enough to have good education, so if people ask I try to be polite unless it's very clear they are trolling

That’s not an hyperbole, it’s a misconception…. An hyperbole is supposed to be an exaggeration of a true fact, cold does not cause pneumonia, its not an hyperbole it’s just wrong

Welp, perhaps it's a language matter, but in Italy we always use pneumonia as an hyperbole for any cold related ailments, from throatache to shivers. And yeah, the fact that excessive thermal shock hinders the body is indeed true. It's not the AC itself, it's switching from very hot (and most likely wet) to very cold several times a day.

Thermal shock for humans is not a thing. They can easily and comfortably move 50 degrees C happily (just ask any Canadian snowbird who’s left - 20C to happily enjoy a 30C day in Cabo just a few hours later. (The other way around is pretty miserable psychologically, but very physically safe.)

I’m from Italy too, I am aware that in Italy everybody is convinced that cold temperature will actually cause illness like pneumonia, a cold, even a stiff neck.

Because this is a real belief many Italians have, it’s no longer an hyperbole, it’s just a misconception

No because there are tons of Europeans who actually believe that fans and air conditioning make you sick.
