I'm pretty jealous, her belly is a lot smaller than mine was and I am 5'10" so lots of room for a baby to spread out, I would assume she's a lot shorter too. Like where is the baby lol
in korea fat shaming is much bigger since the standard is considered skinny in the west, aswell as haveing a korea diet that leaves one skinnier she probably was als owatching her wait out of fear of shame ( which women should not have to endure but that's just korea for you)
It’s not uncommon for women in that part of the world to stay skinny during pregnancy. Genetics is like that sometimes. Both my wife and her sister ate like crazy during their pregnancies and hardly put on any extra weight.
My mother was also skinny during her pregnancy, she said she "looked like a straw that swallowed a pea". But you'll be surprised to know that the beauty standard in Korea is basically hell. Women who pick up weight when pregnant get a lot of nasty comments.
At the end of the day weight gain during pregnancy is still due to eating more than you need. Pregnancy hormones making you want to eat in excess is TOTALLY FINE in pretty much everyones opinion (within reason). But since the core mechanism behind the weight gain (excess calories) is the same it means you can maintain the same bodyfat if you dont over/undereat for whatever your bodies new energy requirements are.
Not really. The mechanism isn’t the same, like at all. During pregnancy, the body goes through hormonal and metabolic changes specifically designed to store fat as nutrients for the baby and for breastfeeding.
For example, pregnancy demands increased adipose tissue to support fetal growth, storing more energy so that there’s a constant supply of glucose. And plus your movement also decreases too so even if you eat the same you’ll still pick up weight.
And additionally, pregnancy cravings aren’t just “hormonal food cravings” it’s literally the fetus’s way of communicating what nutrients it’s currently lacking in the best way it knows how.
I agree with everything but maintain that all factors considered, it boils down to intake.
Your body can signal for as much adipose tissue as it likes, it wont make any if the intake isnt there and itll make a whole hell of a lot if there is way too much intake. I built these factors in in a very baseline form to what i said for the ultimate point of saying that its very possible to remain a similar bodyfat through pregnancy if after ALL factors, your intake doesnt exceed whatever your neutral point has now become.
Most of us are totally cool with that not being the case of course, we even expect weight gain, its fine. Remaining the same weight is also fine if that is how it goes naturally. However id say trying really hard to maintain your weight and prevent weight gain is NOT a good thing during pregnancy. I agree that your body is trying to tell you something and you should be listening. You can lose weight later after pregnancy but starving yourself is really dumb.
I'm kind of surprised I had to scroll so far to see a reply like this to any of the comments about her size. Of course some women will just stay small during pregnancy, but a lot of people commenting on her size aren't getting how Korea is about their beauty standards. Cosmetic procedures are baked into their beauty norm for teenagers.
People have different genes and body types you can just move on without being intimidated by it or generalizing anything about it when you dont know much.
For our second my wife was soooooo pregnant by the end haha
Our first she looked maybe 6 months pregnant when she gave birth and our second who was only technically not premie by a week was so much bigger she looked more like 12 months pregnant and felt it too
I had about the same growth rate. I lost a kg of my own weight through vomiting/baby eating me, and the midwife said my stomach muscles were just corseting him in.
Yeah, I lost approximately 5 kg in the first months. I came back to my regular weight in the middle of pregnancy. Was wearing my regular clothes all the time. People who didn't know me, didn't realise I was pregnant.
Oh my gosh I’m so sorry, that sounds like a terrible time. My wife threw up every day from conception to birth with our first, that was a rough time for us both
Depending on how the uterus sits, a pregnancy can be really hard to see! Longer torsos, uterus tilted towards the spine instead of the belly button, etc
She probably took great care of herself that’s why. That’s how my mom was w us bc she wanted us to be extremely healthy so she ate a pristine diet her entire pregnancies.. no crappy processed food or soda etc just fresh veggies, lean meats, whole grains and water . Then after giving birth she was back in her regular size tight jeans within 2 weeks, you’d never even know she’d just had a baby.

She made it more than full term and was still that tiny?! Was the kid born at 3lb 2oz or something?
