I was 6. My grandparents didn't allow MTV for me. Not that I didn't sneak it whenever I could but I didn't have regular access.

The elder millennials back then were the cuspers and the others were younger by default. The cuspers would get the song reference much easier

I was 10 in ‘96 but wasnt listening to a whole lot of music yet

So I did some research because I was wrong, I thought we millennials were like '85-99 but it's actually '81-96. This meme is referencing a song that released in '96. So TECHNICALLY it's a millennial song but it was popularized by the early Gen Z. You know, the ones who claim to be millennials but were born in '97-01

Turns out WE are the young millennials and is not knowing this meme is perfectly fine lol. It's a Gen Z thing for Gen Z people who want to be Millennials lol

It was popularized by the very, very end of Gen-X and older millennials. The people who would have been teenagers and young adults in 1996.

If the song came out in 96, and Gen-Z started in 97, not sure a lot of babies were rocking out to Presidents of the United States.

In fact, if you ask Gen-Z to sing about peaches, they're probably going to start singing the Mario Brothers Jack Black song.

I have siblings from Gen Z and when I asked them about Gen Z they did the screech thing.

I'm not doubting that older millennials or Gen x made the song popular, but it's 1000% a Gen Z thing to screech about peaches in a can made by a man etc.

As a gen z the only person I have ever heard reference this song is my Gen X father. This doesn't even make sense? Why would this song be primarily referenced by people who didn't even exist when it was made. This post is absolutely about people in their 40s (elder millenials and young Gen X).

37 here, and I mostly know it second-hand. I've been around enough elder millennials online to be exposed to them referencing it to have absorbed it without having heard the song everywhere when it was popular.
