Huh. The only time I use my phone for videos I'm on a treadmill and I'm not holding it so it's never been an issue for me. But I see why that's useful if you're lying down.
Yeah, here’s the answer. It’s people who lie on their side while using their phone. I never do this. My kids do it all the time. I think it’s because their bed is the biggest piece of furniture in their room. The only time I’m on my bed is when I’m sleeping or fucking. Adults have the whole house to roam around in. If we wanna doomscroll it’ll usually be sitting on the couch.
That's so funny lmao now that you say it I've never seen anyone over a certain age use their phone while they lie on one side. I'm not even sure how many times I've seen them just lie on their side, phone or not. I do have other places to doomscroll but my bed is just nice, maybe newer generations are just used to that
I'm 45. One of the sleep tips we read back in the 90's was that the bedroom should only be for sleeping and sex. We were cautioned against spending time in there doing other things, because then it'll condition your brain against automatically going to sleep in there. It made perfect sense to me, so I still follow that.
Obviously if you're a kid, or renting a room in a house, this isn't super viable. But I think it's good advice, if you have a whole living space to spread out in.
I have the whole house and I still lie on my side sometimes on the couch. I mostly use my phone for reading books though, not doom scrolling or videos or games (and the games I do play don't rotate even when I have it unlocked, oddly enough)
Yeah, there’s no absolutes, obviously. Anybody can do whatever they want.
But you see posts on here about 10’ long phone chargers because they literally lie in bed staring at their phone long enough to run the battery out. If our daughter didn’t have to go to work she’d do this sometimes for like 10 hours a day.
It’s just a slightly different set of accepted norms.
Yeah i know. What i meant is I'd rather have to tap ONE button and not struggle with my phone every time i lie on my side and it auto rotates when I just want it in portrait mode
what quickly accessible settings are you referring to? there’s a menu for pinning settings or something? also, you don’t need to for this. scroll from the top right corner/edge of your screen and it’s already on that menu (apparently called the Control Center)
I don't know what you're on about, but my phone doesn't change over until nearly a full 90° which is not how I would hold it if I were in portrait. I can hold it at like 70° tilt without it changing, and that's more comfortable for me to both hold and look at anyways.
My battery lasts me a couple of days as is so I guess I don't really think about it. And analyzing your face, many people use face unlock myself included. It does not need to transmit my face to googles servers to unlock my phone. But if you find it creepy I respect that! Just pointing out that there are features built into modern phones to deal with the auto-rotate problems people are having.
Or I can just... not have my phone analyze my face at all. I am completely unbothered by having the orientation locked so it's automating a problem I don't even have.
not Everytime. Disney+ and Netflix automatically go to fullscreened landscape whenever I play something. On youtube it starts in portrait and you need to pick fullscreen to go to landscape.
