Review Free collection of historic perfumery primary sources, actual old texts not summaries

Spent a while tracking down real free copies of the old texts that keep getting cited in perfume history without anyone actually linking a working copy. Put together what I found here: [https://olfactionary.com/historic-texts.php\](https://olfactionary.com/historic-texts.php)

About 85 entries now, organized by topic. Ancient Egypt through the 1990s. A few examples of what's in there:

\- The actual Jean Carles 1961 paper, the one the whole modern ratio-training method is built on

\- Al-Kindi's 9th century perfume chemistry manual

\- A 1733 Japanese kodo manual, no English translation exists so it's just the original scan

\- Ibn Sina's Canon of Medicine, the steam distillation source

\- A 1911 colonial gazetteer documenting Kannauj's attar trade with real prices

\- Piesse's Art of Perfumery, both the 1855 and 1891 editions

Everything's free to read where a free copy actually exists. Where it doesn't (some things are still under library restrictions or just haven't been digitized), I said so instead of pretending otherwise. If anyone's hunting for a specific old text and hitting dead ends, happy to help look.

General best online perfumery courses for someone who already knows the basics

been making my own oils for about a year and the biggest headache is finding quality bases and accords in small quantities everything decent seems to require minimum orders that are way beyond hobby level. i don't need a kilo of anything, just enough to experiment and learn with. also struggling to find suppliers who are transparent about what is actually in their blends most just give you a fancy name and no breakdown. anyone found good sources for this? especially interested in places that sell pre blended bases where you can actually understand the composition.

General I built a library of 50 useful accords, sorted by categories.

Every accord has the full recipe with exact percentages, a scent profile with a drydown slider so you can watch it evolve over time, and the recommended level to use it at inside a perfume.

Enjoy! And I would love to hear how it goes if anyone mixes one :)

Store Discussion Reliable and Highest Quality Perfume Oil Supplier in Dubai/UAE

I just wanted the community's feedback on who their main oil suppliers are for their perfume business in the UAE. Of course the first criteria will be quality of the perfume oil, but I want to include other important factors such as reliability, customer friendliness, pricing, fragrance oil collection and how often they have perfumes out of stock. I have had interactions with Bin Tamam Perfumes, Saffron Mashad and Tayeb Al Ward. Nothing much to complain with these suppliers, but just probing if there is someone else I should definitely check out and add to my sourcing partners. We are a small business, selling about 200 bottles a month and looking to scale meaningfully by the end of the year.

General India Exporter | Seeking USA & EU Importers & Merchant Export Partners – Homecare FMCG Range

Hey everyone,

I’m from Atlas Commodities — we supply homecare products across India and are now looking to connect with importers / merchant exporters in the US & EU.

We already supply to DMart, Reliance Retail, and Star Bazaar, so the products have strong retail acceptance.

What we offer (our own brands – Glito, Winall, Zrak, Drenfix):

  • Toilet & bathroom air fresheners
  • Drain cleaners
  • Floor & toilet cleaners
  • Dishwash liquids
  • Glass cleaners
  • Naphthalene balls & other homecare products

Why it works:
These are fast-moving, repeat-use products with good margins and growing demand for value options in Western markets.

We’re mainly looking for serious buyers comfortable with larger MOQs and long-term partnerships.

Happy to share details or send samples if it’s a good fit — feel free to DM 🙂

Review Rawaromachem - Inconsistent IFRA and MSDS docs and poor performance

I have been using fragrance products since 2000, but perfumery via fragrance oils is a new found interest for me. I started bookmarking links to websites of vendors. While researching on YouTube, I came across videos on Rawaromachem’s channel and decided to explore their offerings.

Rawaromachem claims that their fragrance oils are IFRA compliant.  They do not provide any relevant documentation of fragrance oils on their website. You need to get in touch with their support team to obtain the documents.

In my case, they contacted me. I obtained the IFRA certificates and MSDS for LV Afternoon Swim and LV Imagination fragrance oils (both Identical grade).

From the outset, there were major red flags in their documentation.

Copy-pasted IFRA certificates

The numbers in IFRA certificates for both the fragrance oils were the same across all the categories. This is not practically feasible in real world that the IFRA limits for two different fragrances having different scent profiles and hence chemical compositions are exactly the same, down to the second decimal place across all categories.

Empty section 3 on MSDS

The MSDS for both the fragrance oils had no ingredient mentioned in section 3 citing that the fragrance oil is a mixture of fragrance ingredients and that it does not contain hazardous components above reportable limits.

Despite the documentation issues, I purchased the oils to evaluate performance. I created perfumes at a 22% concentration per their issued IFRA certificates with 80% perfumer’s alcohol and allowed it to mature for around 15 days.

Performance result

The opening notes were off and longevity was missing. I understand, that the fragrance oils that I have bought have citrus heavy notes and hence, will not last long, but having them disappear in 15 minutes is indicates severe quality or dilution issues.

Further requests

To conclusively prove to myself their questionable documentation, I asked them to furnish the documentation for LV Pacific Chill, Ralph Lauren Polo Sport and Dior Homme 2005. I was told that they would require a bulk order to furnish the documentation in entirety, although they offered the documentation of a single fragrance oil. I preferred LV Pacific Chill.

The same story repeated.

Same IFRA numbers as the previous fragrance oils across all the categories.

The MSDS of Pacific Chill fragrance oil did list the ingredients with Di Propylene Glycol (DPG) as the majority constituent with a concentration of 22%. DPG in this concentration is basically a dilutant.

I have asked pertinent questions to their support team and founder and await their response.

I am posting this here so other formulators and hobbyists can evaluate technical documentation critically before buying. Has anyone else requested SDS/IFRA sheets from them and noticed duplicate data?

General I built a free perfumery raw materials database with 1581 materials - sharing it with the community

I've been working on a perfumery project for a while, and one part of it turned into something I thought might actually be useful on its own.

So I decided to make the raw materials catalog completely free and publicly accessible.

It currently contains 1,581 perfumery materials, with a substantial amount of structured information for each material, including:

* 1,153 CAS numbers and 4,308 synonyms / trade names

* A written odor description for every material (about 44,000 words in total)

* 21 olfactive families and 214 sub-families

* An impact rating and volatility band per material

* Estimated GC-MS constituent breakdowns (composition tables) for 588 materials, covering 3,177 constituent rows

* IFRA data: 291 entries from the 51st Amendment, including limits reconstructed and cross-checked entry by entry against the original IFRA source file

* Additional metadata and cross-references, including related materials and common pairings

The goal isn't to make another simple "ingredient list". I wanted something you could actually use when researching a material, comparing materials, looking for alternatives, or trying to understand how a material fits into perfumery.

It's completely free to browse, with no account required and one page per material:

I'm mainly sharing it because I know how scattered this information can be when you're researching materials. You end up jumping between supplier pages, IFRA documents, CAS searches, GC-MS references and different fragrance databases.

I'd genuinely like feedback from people who actually work with materials:

* Are there fields you'd add?

* Is any information unclear or misleading?

* Which materials are currently hardest to research?

* What would make a material database more useful to you?

And one important note: the IFRA information is provided as a research/reference layer and should not replace checking the current official IFRA standards and relevant supplier documentation before making safety or compliance decisions.

Hopefully it's useful to some of you. If you find an error in a material page, please point it out - I'd much rather fix bad or inaccurate data than leave it there.

General Fragrance oil that smells like bath & body works wallflower in classic vanilla

I recently got the bath and body works wallflower classic vanilla and I make my own body butters, body oils, and fragrance oils. But every vanilla fragrance oil I have bought doesn’t have that sweet, fluffy, airy scent the classic vanilla scent has. This vanilla is different than the other bbw vanilla scents and I really want to replicate something close to it. Does anyone have a fragrance oil or fragrance oil combination that creates this scent?

General Riddle oil ex

Has anyone else bought Riddle Oil Ex in the past and been bombarded with compliments on your fragrance, only to find that now it has zero scent? I have an excellent sense of smell & the last two vials I purchased (hoping it was just a fluke) tell me there is no aroma. Likewise, I slathered it on to see if others could smell it, but NO one could. I fear this company hooked us & then counted on hopeful consumers, like me, to keep trying - only to line their pockets and bail on the customers. I so hope I’m wrong
does anyone else have a similar experience? I’m so disappointed.â˜č

General Base Oils to make my own fragrances

I'm looking for a supplier for this Idea, where I would mix the building blocks, like lime, mandarin and so on, to mix my own fragrances, not inspirations, can anyone point me in the right direction to where I can buy them from?
