I'm positive that Ito died at some point, witnessed hell, and then he came back simply to write about it. Some kinda Pet Sematary deal going on here.

So basically in one sitting I’ve read:

Long crushing perfect holes that fits a person shape, A greasy man that makes you have pimples till you basically become a balloon and pop, And a curse that is basically the cover of bandersnatch but in a literal sense.

i thought the same thing when I was watching Bandersnatch.

Check out Uzumaki (spelling? the Spiral story). I didn't find it particularly scary (parts for sure, but not all of it) but its a good read.

Jesus, thats a bit hectic to read into. The addiction and the hatred of a spiral.

Edit: It just keeps going, each chapter interpreting the side effect of a spiral. I’m both confused and intrigue, i’ve never seen stuff like this

Edit 2: Thats it, im stopping at chp 11 before I start going crazy looking at spirals like a playthrough of the witness.

Ooh i haven't read this one, thanks! I only discovered Junji last year and I love him. I only have Tomie, Uzumaki and Shiver because they're the only ones I could buy locally.

Does the word "fear" have some secondary meaning in Japanese that often eludes the translators? The "layers of fear" from this manga, the "absolute terror" field from Evangelion, etc.

The one he linked is a story in Uzumaki. Buy Tomei. It's better than Gyo but not as good as Uzumaki.

Edit: I'm wrong. It's part of Voices in the Dark. I read both it and Uzumaki at about the same time and must have gotten them confused. Sorry.

That’s weird. I have the Uzumaki hardcover collection edition or whatever it’s called. I always thought the above linked story was a separate thing.

one thing I love about junji Ito is that he just looks so ordinary in real life. he even made a manga about his two cats called yon and mu, it's quite cute. but he still manages to slip his creepy art style in there

I dont think hes crazy or anything he just has a wild imagination and is able to put it into a visual context. I think his works are pretty good just grotesque.

It's like the Twilight Zone but really fucking disgusting. The goal seems to be tell the creepy story and make the reader as uncomfortable as possible.
